Presume you use a desktop. All laptops have wifi adapter using which you can connect to wireless networks. If you use desktop, you need a wifi card or a wifi USB dongle using which you can connect to wifi network. Simply go to any computer shop and tell them that you need to connect your desktop to wifi and they will give you the exact piece.

search netgear wg311 PCI ethernet card in Google.
cost about Rs 1000/= can be used in your Desktop.
What kind of wifi provided in your college? ( free ?)
The signal strength should be reasonable,
and you are allowed to access the wifi network ( acccesss point )
iF links given post not allowed. goes for moderation.
trying: ok for this link !

I think it is better to get a USB card. Better handled than internal ones.

    USB card
    .
Not possible to use in a Desktop. needed for laptops. PCMCIA type.

(Presume reference is: to USB modem used for 3g networks. etc
    http://www.amitbhawani.com/blog/best...-usb-in-india/)
sensitivity will be less than a PCI card with an
antenna . This antenna may be detachable also.

    UPDATE:
    As suggested by @meetdilip
check link above for photo of usb card.
    Also:
    USB dongle:
