Question Should I move from 500C+ to Home1350UL?

    Hi,
I have been using 500C+ FN for almost last 2 years and on number of occasions I have paid more than Rs 3K for total usage.

The usage is not wrong from BSNL's point.

500C+ FN allows only 2.5 GB of download / upload for a month but I have crossed and spent 5-7Gb on many occasions, and hence had to pay more than Rs. 3K a no. of times.

Now this is going out of hand as I listen to songs / watch videos on YouTube which actually eats up most of my permissible limit.

I was trying to find a suitable plan with night unlimited but with a little higher (around 5Gb) of download limit but BSNL is too shrewd to allow this.

So I am zooming upon Home 1350 UL which does have FUP (argghhhhh!!!!v)

but I can see it gives 2mbps speed upto 20gb and 512kbps hence forth.

Any one in this plan, can please share your thoughts on Home 1350 UL on how the speed reduction affects?

I download around 40-50Gb of data each month and so bit concerned about this drop in speed... but do i have any option? i don't think so but if you all can help... it will be great!

ULD 1350 is your best bet. Even if there is an FUP, the speed will dip to 512 Kbps (not 256 Kbps like in other plans). Even though 20 GB is not high, it is ok for domestic use. I am using UL 750 with 512 Kbps and I can tell you it is a decent speed. If you are interested in peace of mind than large bills and has enough budget, go for ULD 1350.

You are correct, there is no option. Please go for any of the unlimited plans. Paying such huge bills so often can't be an option.

Simple calculations : home 500C day 2.5 GB NU unlimited.
    speed upto 2 Mbps 256 KB/sec 15MB /min aprox 600 MB/hour say
time 06-08AM 1 GB each day in a month 30 GB approx
    rime 02-06AM 2 GB " " " 60 GB approx
Assume d/l speed is only 50% average 45 GB! each month.
    Day time 2.5 GB.
Use FDM and schedulers to download files/movies/ etc

    Daytime 08-02AM
Use FireFox with adddons Adblock Plus Flash block to avoid
    seeing same popups/advts/flash messages.

Use NetWorX to monitor you usage hourly/daily/weekly/monthly
    basis
    With money saved in a year ( Rs `11,000/=approx ) you can buy a 3G smartphone !!!!!

    2. U/L1350 ( average usage 12 to 14 hours )
20GB: only 1 GB D/L average per hour at upto 2 Mbps speed ! !!! say downloaded in 4 days.

    Rest 26 days at 512 Kbps 64 KB/sec 3.6 MB/min say 150MB/hour for 14 hours average surfing d/l 2 GB/day 52 GB ( 50% d/l avg speed as above approx 25GB)
    Total 45 GB.

    Hi,
What you have written for 500C+ is true but 2.5 GB for the whole month..i am not sure what BSNL expects out of us. The calculation of Night Unlimited is perfect but i tend to land up exhausting the 2.5GB limit in about 10 days, so at the end of the month its about 7GB and hence the huge bill...

I am just worried about the speed drop... will even surfing be very slow@512??

Surfing experience is more or less same in Home 500 and UL 750 (512 Kbps). Even YouTube it ok with a little or no buffering. Download speed is certainly low when compared to Home 500 plans. But you cannot not have it all at the same time. You need to compromise on speed if you wish to have an unlimited connection.

Home1350UL is best plan from BSNL atleast for me

Not good for a heavy downloader but good for those who download 3-4 movies per month and watch 5-6 Youtube HD Videos and do 1-2 hours of Surfing everyday

I have used both 2Mbps and 512 Kbps on my connection. Page loading is no different in both connections. I think there is some advantage in YouTube, but it is more or less the same. I have seen 8 Mbps connection in which YouTube is buffering just like a 512 Kbps connection. It is mainly the download speed that give experience of a high speed plan.

Stick with Home 500 as long as you can; it's by far the best value for money plan widely available in India.

As essbebe said you can quite easily download 45+ GB per month with it.

All the "unlimited" plans from BSNL have a really bad FUP just like airtel so they aren't really good at all.

There is a huge difference between 1Mbps + speeds and 256/512kbps. You will also typically get higher latencies with such connections. Video loading is also painfully slow and streaming audio isn't fun when it's all choppy.

Ideally; schedule any video/music downloads for the night time free period, and stick to vanilla web browsing with script/ad/flash blockers during the day.

You could also get a 2nd ISP with 4-5GB limit for daytime usage (airtel or reliance).

Rs 500 + Rs 700/800 for the 2nd connection will probably still be cheaper.

Just learn to use a scheduler, and how to set up downloads to happen during the free period; and how to kill processes and disconnect automatically at the right time.

but he spends a lot on power consumption thinking it is desktop and CRT monitor. Even LCD monitor consumes no less, i suppose.
May be , if O P agrees he can audit his real download needs. as I gathered, most people download Cinemas and watch it once or twice. Imagine at what cost!!!

    You're joking right ?

    monitors can be switched off.

power consumption costs from a PC that has speakers/graphics card/processor running at "almost off" levels (i.e. during the night) barely draw any power at all.

The only thing that is spinning is your hard drive and very marginal cpu usage.

well well... i have used 500C+ for over 2 years and i have used scheduler / down-loader / script to auto-login and it has worked impeccably fine with all my movie downloads happening between 2-8 am exactly in these 2 years.

For the last few months, my hobby of listening to songs from youtube and also with working (official) has contributed to this Magna-bill.

I tried to contain but went in vain.

Hope someday this FUP will be banished from our dictationary!

I will be paying Rs. 1350 each month and I don't give a damn to FUP!!!!

submitted application on 27th and today got sms confirmation that it will be changed effective 1st feb..now that was fast!
