Default Any Idea how to replace a BSNL Modem

    Hi
I have a BSNL Nokia-Siemens C2110 black modem. Well first of all it worked well during the last 2 years. But just a few days back it gave some unique symptoms. First of all in 9 of 10 attempts, whenever I switched on , there was no handshaking , I mean 'LINK' led simply kept blinking forever.I one attempt the handshaking took place and after few secs of fast blinking the link was established and broadband was connected. I another unique case all 4 leds were lighted ( Power , Link ,Date , PC/USB) .Normally the Power,Link and PC/USB is lighted.
I have lodged a compalint. Now I wonder whether my modem is in its last days. If anybody faced similar problem can confirm whether I need to replace the modem. If yes , How to do that . I believe BSNL modem is proprietory so I have to get the modem from them only or I can purchase similar ADSL modems from outside.can I just walk in to any BSNL customer care store and purchase or I have to apply for this. Lastly what is the price of the simplest model of such modem. Well lots of questions and desperately need answers.I have a part-time home based job and it is internet oriented. So I cant go offline even for a day. Thanks

If you had purchased the modem, no replacement possible.
If on rental basis may be replaced.
    try this option.
    (2)
ANY ADSL modem can be used. Cost below Rs 1000/=
in local market. From BSNL Rs 1100/= Plus taxes or on rental.
    (3)
Connect the NEW modem and try "Dialer"
( enter userid/pw in computer Dialer window )
    may work.

    See this link:

    Default modem

    Dear Simi,
I suggest u go for broadband bsnl modem on rental, if there is any problem , they'll replace. If ur oudoor office is close to ur place, pls go with the modem and give a letter for replacement and pls go for rented modem as it will be taken care of in future also. If they have stock, u can get immediately or else ask for a working modem and ensure it's working, get the modem configuration done in outdoor office.

    1. please reset the modem and try configure again fresh. check whether the power supply went bad. any multimeter user can check or get it checked at any radio/tv service shop.

    2. If you purchased it once, just go to the sdop in-charge of your section, and give a letter for a new unit of latest make. They would supply you and bill in your phone bill.

But in all probability, the present modem , ask them, whether they can help reloading firmware.
if you have CD along with unit, please check whether any firmware is in that CD.

    Default My Modem config

    Downstream Data Rate 7669900
    Upstream Data Rate 464000
    SNR (Downstream) 17.0 dB
    SNR (Upstream) 9.5 dB
    Line Attentuation(Downstream) 20.0 dB
    Line Attentuation(Upstream) 16.5 dB

The problem is in 9 out of 10 attempts it fails. Mostly if I start the modem after a gap of say 5-6 hours then the connection is established. But after connecting if I switch off and then switch on, then there will be repeated failures for may be 10-12 attempts. Modem link light keeps on blinking steadily with no sign of handshaking or stable light.

    My firmware is

    Firmware Version V55.1.04.01
    DSL Firmware Version E.37.9.32

Are this figures OK. I have called BSNL and they will come tomorrow and do the check up.I could connect after 5 attempts now and hence writing this.
    Thanks
