Default Conneting two laptops through router

    Hello,

I have two laptops which are connected to BSNL router through WIFI and have no problems in accessing internet on both the laptops. However I am not able to ping the other laptop through router . Can you please let me know the settings which I need to set up on both systems so that I can access other laptop from either way.

    Laptop Name : Fujitsu Siemens
    BSNl Router : AN1020-21

    Enable dhcp. in modem

    mention the command you use.
    in laptop1 or Laptop2 ?

    Copy/Paste for both laptops.
    Also ipconfig /all.
Delete Tunnel data or post as Annexure.
( To avoid scrolling the page )

or post as *.Doc Annexure here.

in windows XP you need to assign static IPs..

in that case, assign static IPs and a common workgroup to both...

[open Network Connections, right click on the wireless connection, select Properties, highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), select Properties and fill the values]

if you have assigned 192.168.1.1 to your modem (which is default), then assign 192.168.1.3 and 192.168.1.4 to the laptops....
the subnet mask would be 255.255.255.0 and default gateway as 192.168.1.1

For the DNS servers, use either the default or any other (search on this forum for the best)...

now, you should not only be able to ping each other but share files and printers as well....

You do not have to. Personally, though, I would.

For the windows stuff, it is important to make sure that the workgroup name is the same (but don't keep the default) and the machine names are different.

    Default Solved

    Hello All,

My issues is solved. I did not share the other laptop and hence I could not able to ping the other one. I had now shared both laptops and had used the below command at CMD ..

net use x:\\ip address of other laptop\shared name

I t fixed my issue. Thanks for all your supporting answers.
