    Default Leased line help...

First of all, I want to know what exactly is meant by a leased line.. and also, is it available for home users?? And, if we have a leased line, then does that mean that we get unlimited usage, regardless of what bandwidth we opt for? Coz if all these are true..then I say to hell with all these night unlimited and home and business plans.. better to take a leased line.. your house is 5 km away from the nearest exchange and a 2 Mbps connection costs only around 18k per year... also, I've heard that the download speed isn't maximum during night unlimited coz most people will be online and downloading at that time.. is this also true?

A leased line is used for different purposes ( see BSNL Link ) .
And it is rather expensive ( see BSNL Leased line tariff )

BSNL Dataone home 500 or 900 unlimited plan is within the
reach of most of the common Indians . And we need not
look for the leased line plans .

The download speeds depend on many factors . BSNL
alone is not responsible for the decrease in speeds ...

We have a saying in Telugu which says that quality of
Butter milk decreases if there are more number of people
to serve . In the same way , as the number of users
increase the net downloading speeds also disturb ...

Well, as you can see.. 17K per year doesn't seem that big to me.. besides, a BSNL 500 plan is totally out of question.. I stay online for more than 10 hours a day.. hence I can either opt for an unlimited plan (256 kbps , I'm currently using Airtel) or go for a leased line..

pls note that the main purpose of this leased line is not
to provide internet connection . BSNL does not provide
internet connection with a leased line ...

I'm not asking whether it's economic for personal use or not.. but what I'm asking is that is it available for personal use? I mean, home users, like me?

Does this leased line have any data transfer limits? or any other restrictions?
Admin, from the looks of it, I don't think there are any restrictions whatsoever..
that's why I'm so keen on taking it.. If someone here can tell me that even home users can take a leased line, then I won't just be keen, I'll be hell bent on taking a leased line..

    Exclamation Its Expensive

Please note leased line charges quoted are for point to point connectivity for your own network. Internet leased line involves port charges, i.e connectivity to internet node /gateway, The cost of internet leased line with port charges included is 13.5 lakh for 2mbps port off-course you will get local lead free.
There is no bar on indivdual users to avail internet leased port and there are no downlaod restriction.
Perfomance of leased circuit also depends on the server you access for download, host other factors like in broadband.
Home>Services>Internet>Port charges for Internet leased line access Back

PORT CHARGES OF INTERNET LEASED LINE SERVICES
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd Internet Port Charges.
    (i) The above charges also include local lead charges if local lead is provided on existing media within local area. If the customer is not in the local telephone system, actual local lead charges will be levied. However, in all such cases, 50% discount on local lead charges will be applicable for bandwidth of 2 Mbps & above. (ii) Local lead charges will not be applicable for ISPs for bandwidth of 8 Mbps & above.

It is not recomended for indivdual users, also you require router, 2 mbps modem

I don’t find any reason for your ISP to deny it.
To have dinner in a restaurant there are two ways; occupy a seat in the restaurant or hire it permanently.

The leased line internet connections are directly connected to the service provider’s router and an allowed bandwidth is given. While in broadband a pppoe session is created.

It is like a direct water line connection to the home and a public tap.

Exclamation Is it affordable for home use?

well.... I will put it straight

2 mbps leased line internet cost
    1) Rs13,50,000/ per annum for non ISP (1:1) & ISP (1:1)
    2) Rs5,40,000/ per annum for ISP (1:4)

ISP & non ISP ? In case off ISP, the hiring party is allowed operate
    like a Internet service provider

1:1 & 1:4 ? In case of 1:4 one port can be shared by other 3
but practically you will get 2 mbps

But only 17k for 2 mbps leased lines ? Leased lines are only point to point communication links on hired basis. Here you are hiring a service ie. internet with direct connection to the router.
