You need a modem before the router as its adsl so you will need a modem at your end and the router is only for your local wifi.

Can you suggest some suitable ADSL modem compatible with linksys WIRELESS-G ROUTER WRT54G within suitable price range for bsnl data one.

There is no compatibility issue with any modem so you can use your linksys with any modem you like.

Default Me purchasing a new Wi-Fi router.....

Hi
I have a BSNL b'dband connection with an external modem provided by them.I connect it to my PC through an ethernet wire. Now wanted to work wirelessly by purchasing a linksys Wireless-G Home Router (WRH45G).
Some doubts about itSorry for so many doubts )

1.I was thinking of disposing away my BSNL's external modem, was giving to a frnd. But would I need both??
2.I know ,already answered ,but since that was very old ,so still questioning, will it be compatible with the BSNL connection
3.Shopkeeper is giving for Rs.2050.Is this OK price and is there any chance of fake router also?

Thnx..

Hi,

Well this is a rather old thread ! but still your query is new so here goes the answer !!

The model no you've given is WRH45G are you sure its the right no ? coz its an outdated model which is replaced by WRH54G !! so be carefull as he may be trying to sell some old stock ! in which case there might be some warranty related issues !

Now coming to your other query, this a wireless router with Ethernet hub and does not have an inbuilt Modem !! which means you have to use the existing modem along with this router !! So either you use both or buy a new wireless router with ADSL modem !!

If you are on a tight budget then I suggest you to go for a BSNL provided Wireless modem which costs 1600 and now there is some discount offer going on (not sure whether its available to you as you've not mentioned where you are from !!) ! any other company one coolly costs twice that, while some as high as 6500 (ultra long range) !!

Here are some models :
1) Linksys WAG160N
2) D-Link DSL-2640B
3) NetGear DG834G

Apart from this you have Belkin and Amplebit one's too !!

Hope this clears all your doubts ! if not don't hesitate to ask !

Regards.

Thanks a lot It was really helpful
U r right actually it was *54* ,in place of *45* my typo.
And i was really thinking, only new router would suffice ,but now it seems like a costly affair . Perhaps would go for BSNL's as u told. But since I already have a connection+modem, not sure would i need to get both afresh or they can provide only a modem separately!!

Hi,

You are most welcome buddy !

Yes indeed its costly affair ! I tried that option too some time back but opted out of it !!

I wanted to buy a wireless router but was not sure of the Quality and workability of BSNL modems ! so I had posted here for some suggestions !

But unfortunately no one bothered to reply !! So I took the pain and task of comparing both (the BSNL and the Market one) Myself !!

I compared a Netgear Wireless router with the BSNL provided ITI DNA Wireless one ! Am very happy to inform that almost in all aspects BSNL scored same as Netgear at Half the price !! so went ahead and bought it !

I can post a one to one comparison of both if members are interested in it (along with internal pics of both the modems) !

So I will say don't worry too much and go for it !

The answer to this question is NO ! Meaning you don't have to go for any new connection !! all you have to do is give an application (written on a plain paper ) asking for a new wireless modem and they'll give one immediately !!

Btw you haven't mentioned whether your existing modem is under rental or you have purchased it ??? if its under rental then you can return it and get this new wireless one !! the rental will be more though, instead of 50 you'll now have to pay 80 (for first 2years then 40) !!

If have bought it then the new one costs 1600 normally and recently they had a 50% discount offer ! Now Am not sure whether its available and also since you've not mentioned where you are from I cannot confirm it for sure !

Regards.
