If Belkins router is wifi router you can use laptop in WIFI mode without any wires.
Mention model number. of Modem and Belkins router.
    Option 1:
See " Broadband How to....... " forum and select a suitable Guide by @Just4Kix. ( same models may not be listed )
    or
    OPTION 2 :
If Bsnl modem has a USB port connect to system least used.
    New cable needed.
    OPTION 3
Connect Rj45 from modem to belkins WAN Internet port
    ( RUN WIZARD)
From LAN1 connect another Rj45 to desktop. ( additional cable needed)
    From LAN2
Another RJ45 to laptop or in WIFI mode.

    Option 4
    wait... For old threads:
In Search box above enter : Belkins N150

Please post your feed back for each option tried/understood .,
    and where you find difficulty.
    In Brief:
    MT882 in "always On " mode ( ID/PW stored in modem )
Dhcp enabled. Desktop tested in Lan mode.
    OPTION 3.
Remove rj45 from computer end and connect to belkins Internet port etc

Can't he use the USB output simultaneously for his laptop, instead of another router?

I'm wondering what I must have missed here, because the answer seems so simple to me that I must have!

    1. Configure modem in always-on mode.

2, Please configure your router to have a different IP to your modem (likely they will both be 192.168.1.1 out of the box) and, if using DHCP from the modem, disable it on the router.

    3. Connect network cable from modem to one of the four LAN ports of the router.

    4. Connect up to three other wired LAN devices plus wifi as desired.

Step "2" is the only one that is much technical. Connection to the WAN port is possible, but the configuration is much more complex and needs more network knowhow.
