Question ADSL Link Disappears at night!

    Hi guys,
I'm sorry I'm bugging you all with all my problem, but I had to ask some people who don't belong to the Customer Care unit.
Of late, my BSNL connection has been troubling me like anything. And since my router is also a little abnormal, I wanted to make sure as to whether this is a network problem, or something to do with my router/other hardware.
The thing is, until recently, my BSNL connection was working perfectly. I was getting good speeds, and zero downtime. And then, it all started one fine day, when my broadband connection suddenly got disconnected, and I started getting the wrong user/pass message. I switched off the router (after n number of retries), and switched it on 20 minutes later, and things started working well. And then, on the very same day, 2-3 hours after reconnecting, the same thing happened again.
And now, things seem to have worsened. I still get those wrong user/pass error messages, and there is a new problem. For the past 3 days, my link disappears at 11-12 in the night, and reappears after 10 am, the next day. It's been happening fairly regularly, and trust me, it's got me pissed as hell. I even ran after some BSNL wallas, and they told me that there was some nationwide problem with the BSNL network, and the people were working on it. I had met him so that he could check up my router, which, he conveniently refused, saying that my router looked fine. And I sincerely didn't have the patience to argue with him at all.
So, my question is: are any of you having the same problems lately? (for the past one week or so?)
I have a one month old DataOne connection, and I'm using my router on bridge mode.
Do you think it's a hardware problem, or is this a problem with the local network/exchange? If yes, what do you people think I should get checked up? My router, or my splitter? Or what?

You have two problem with your connection

    1) Not getting connection
This can be either a faulty ADSL port at exchange or can be DNS problem (nationwide!). The DNS 61.1.96.69 & 61.1.96.71 does't work properly, instead you can give modem ip address as DNS (192.168.1.1 default).

    2) ADSL link disconnect during night
This is clearly poor quality of your telephone line. Dry joint, very long overhead wires, faulty cable pair - can be anything from local exchange to modem.
For proper working of ADSL lines good copper connectivity is a must.

    Thumbs down same problem

    hey guys,

im experiencing the same prob in haryana...last few weeks have been terrible for me...the ADSL link goes down frequently in the night...all this starts at around 10:30 pm n stays till early morning hours..i guess this is a trick of BSNL to save the bandwidth in the night cuz of free usage facility from 2 am -8 am

I have contacted the concerned person n he says that there is some "card" which has to be inserted n it will get rid of the problem.Duno if it will work or not.

It is likely due to poor line quality, you can verify this by logging into modem webpage 192.168.1.1 , default IP address with username : admin, password: admin or utstar else refer manual CD for default values.
Please look for connection data where you get to see SN ratio, errors in line connection and uplink speed , downlink speed at which modem is able to connect. UPLINK ./Downlink should be 2048/512kbps.
Poor line quality as expalined in previous post

hey guys, i am having the same problem, but thats not just at night, it happens frequently and after repeated complaining no action has been taken. my connection used to be fine before that. just when this new scheme os 2mbps has been introducted this has been happening. it is irritating because it is slower than what it used to be. b4 it used to download at 30 or 50 kbps. now it donwloads only at 10 to 20 kbps. i am sure there is not line fault, because it is freshly laid just last year. i am from bangalore and i am sure something is being done. it is going to get very nasty.. we need to do something. my connection does show 2048/484 kbps links btw...

I also feel like this ..though hilarious....I dont think BSNL people have any problem with night usage ....due to its odd time...
