Default Need Urgent help in choosing a Non-BSNL Modem

    Hi all

I need all your sincere help and suggestion in this issue. Few days back I had this modem problem in my DataOne connection. It was solved but it
left me with negative experiences and lot of worries about BSNL. Well BSNL is undoubtedly the best broadband service provider in terms of average uptime in our country but hell breaks loose when some fault comes. The reason I am telling is because I had almost one year totally uninterrupted service but when my modem faulted they took almost 11 days in all to get it replace(well the call center promised me that within 2 official days my system will be up but the local exchange guys wasted 3 of my precious days by bringing faulty modems every time from their own office) . Since I take part in share trading, so 11 days downtime means a huge inconvenience to me.I hate going to cyber cafe for these jobs. Now what I want is to keep a backup modem in my home for emergency purposes. So I want some names of non BSNL popular modems available in market ( Full specs will be appreceated as I am kind of rookie). I would like to buy and keep in case my BSNL one fails , then I can use the backup one till the BSNL guys waste a week or two in solving the prolem. At present I am using Type I-Nokia Siemens C2110. So modems similar top this will serve my purpose.I dont need WiFi.Please those who are actually using NON-BSNL modems can also tell their experiences
    Thanks all

afterall, electronic equipment and they can become faulty. suppose a suggested, (say D-Link or Belkin), if you purchase, and it goes faulty, no way other than replace, as we don't find their service centre except perhaps state capitals. At that time BSNL would again express helplessness.

let us analyse the failure reasons.

many times, the RJ45 cable pins get contaminated, and it happened for me even though it is purchased a month back.
night High voltages (more than 260V AC) spoil many equipments, in sub-urban and rural front. neutral breaks spoil entire equipment that are ON at the time of accident. how ever it is better to keep a spare modem perhaps.
Finally I am of the opinion that these bsnl modems have spread to town and below levels also. you might try D-Link perhaps.
