Default automatic redirection to a supposed BSNL site happening

    Hi all,

I am sometimes being automatically redirected to a website which looks like a bsnl website. Am I being spoofed or something. The link of that site is

www dot motive dot bsnl dot co dot in

I can't paste the url due to
You are only allowed to post URLs to other sites after you have made 15 posts or more

and this redirection happens sometimes when I open a browser window.

This link has a text like

    WELCOME - BSNL Essential Downloads
Dear esteemed BSNL Broadband Customer, to get started you must download the following Self Care Software and enjoy hassle free BSNL High Speed Broadband Access. CPE should be in PPPoE mode while running the following applications. Following software doesn't support Windows Vista and Windows 7. So customers using Windows Vista and Windows 7 kindly proceed browsing by opening a new window/tab and typing the URL
To View the URL hold the mouse on the required download list under "Downloads Required Software"

There are several links to download new firmware/software. Should I do this?

It was there earlier. Was not reported since a long time. Trying clearing the browser cache. It may work.

    Hi meetdilip,

Actually what I mean't was occasionally it automatically goes to that site even when I clear the cache. So I was wondering if this was a message by BSNL to upgrade the firmware or something

    1.
see this circular. The main idea is explained.
    http://www.indiabroadband.net/bsnl-b...e-bsnl-co.html (Official Circular for motive.bsnl.co.in).

    2. You may have more problem/s trying to suppress this redirection.
    3.
No idea which circle you belong to :
    May disappear after a month.
    4.
    Mention your modem/make/model/number

    5.
Firmware upgrade is not normally done, unless all other tweaks, and trying to exchange modem , are tried.
    6.
Which mode you connect to Internet ?
    (a)
"Dialer""bridged" mode ( userId/PW entered in computer window.
    (b)
AlwaysON( userId/pw stored in WAN page of modem PPP/PPPoE mode.
    System connects automatically to Internet.

    Hi essbebe,

I went to the link that you gave. But believe me , I didn't find anything in that which is related to motive dot bsnl ..... except of course you were commenting that

"...Just when I thought , things are getting stabilised, BSNL has started this "motive" application, and another selfcare access application.....".

I didn't understand what u mean't by what circle I belong to. I am in Bangalore.

I use Teracome Type 1 model. T1-B-DSL699E9.4U6-5 and I connect through PPOE mode

Even today I was redirected to that site. I can't understand what is going on.

As I mentioned before, it used to happen earlier too. People tried almost all tricks but still there is a redirection. Better not to try the software or firmware available at that site. Known to corrupt modem settings. A few of them were unfortunate to brick their modem.

Presume you have not read the full thread.
See this post in the thread , to understand why BSNL wants to set the modem settings, whether by their technician or user.

    2.
One way to dodge is using "Dialer Mode"

    3.
Automatic access to your modem is usually via Client TR-069
    or ACS menu option.
Disable both, if seen in your modem/router.
    4.
Another suggestion was not to click any link in that page and
type a new web site address in address bar.
    5.
If you are on an unlimited plan, download what is applicable to you. ( even otherwise says "download is NOT counted" for the download from this site. I have d/l at a higher speed, just now even though my plan is for 512 Kbps speed U/L).
    wait...

    6. I use Beetel110BXI modem.

try this then and let me know

    go to start>run>drivers
open the hosts file in the etc folder(use any editor, preferably notepad)
you will see the localhost adress 127.0.0.1 of your machine at the end
in the next line copy/paste this
    127.0.0.1 motive.bsnl.co.in
    127.0.0.1 wxw.motive.bsnl.co.in
your browser will never find that bl**dy motive site as it will be redirected to itself.everytime your browser will give a message like cant find this site.but after sometime the msg began to bug me,so I changed the 127.0.0.1 to my homepage IP

and plz dont try those crappy softwares present on that site

Change host file is a good idea. But the problem is, it will simply block the site, not the loading page. It will redirect and give a blank page. These were discussed from head to foot some 6 months ago.

Thank you all for the replies. I will ignore the redirection and see if it goes away.
