    Question Help me choose

Hi fellas this is my first post.

I am soon going to have a BSNL Broadband connection. I have chosen the plan but now am confused with which router/modem to go for. I have searched the net and found nothing satisfactory for myself.. So I have decided to ask you guys and I want you guys to help me out in choosing the right one.

Budget: 2000 Rs max ( can increase this by another 500 Rs if needed )

No of devices : 1 PC and 1 Mobile

Preferred brands: Belkin, D-Link, Netgear , Dell

Warranty: Longer(3-5 yrs) / Lifetime preferred.

Hope these information helps. I understand it's a tight budget but I definitely don't wanna go for the BSNL modem.

    Thanx in advance

You can get a modem from BSNL itself. Wifi modem costs Rs. 1,800 and non wifi modem costs Rs. 1,100. It is also available for Rs. 50 and Rs. 80 per month rent. If you choose a 3 rd party modem, you won't get any support from BSNL staff. Even if it is a line condition, they will blame it on your modem and get away. I am using AR800V v3.0 wifi modem from BSNL. It is quite good in my opinion.

My modem is made by Syrma technologies. They also give Teracom modems. I have not heard any complaints about them in many forums I participate. But if you are planning to buy on from BSNL, you hardly have a choice. You need to take the one they keep in stock. But normally they give reliable modems.

I have a query about this Wireless router AR800V v3.0 which is given by BSNL...
Can you pls explain me the nature of the connection ?

I mean, the cable from the telephone line directly connected to wireless router and then it is shared across PC and Laptop ....Is that in this fashion.

Pls correct me if Im wrong

Me too using the same modem. The phone cable goes to DSL port. Then insert the ethernet cable to any of the LAN ports in the modem and connect the other end to the LAN card of your PC. If still in doubt, check this diagram

Any modem/wifi router type I or type II (old classification)
or new classification B1/B2 or W1/W2take on rent first.
    http://www.bsnl.co.in/service/bbtariff/initial.htm
Check Port forwarding option is available.
Only ITI SEM DNA A212-I type 2 seems to have this option available

Other models based on Siemens c2110 seem to lack this option.
users usually need this for torrents download..
