Can anyone tell me whether in India there is any >1mbps, unlimited plan of broadband?
Can anyone tell me whether in India there is any >1mbps, unlimited plan of broadband?
Yes there is. But not for domestic purpose.
And let me tell u that the bandwidth for our respected Indian Army is greater than greater than 10 GBps (yes Gigabytes). Now don't let your jaw drop man...
And one of relative happened to be a renowned professor in Kolkata Indian Statistical Institute. He says that they have their own dedicated server. It takes a whimp of an eye to download a 700MB movie, even the progress bar of downloading doesn't appear...!!!!!!!
Now don't ask me why don't we get these......
All major tech institutes including IIT's have fat data pipes![]()
Sorry boss, I forgot to mention the name of IIT! My goodness!
Indeed, that is remarkableBut can you shed light to my hope? I don't have affiliation with IIT's or ISI's at present. By anon I'd try to get in one of TIFR, IISc, IIT's or ISI's for research in Mathematics. Do the researchers/ masters students get the chance to use the dedicated server for their own use there? What does your relative say?
Cheers
Students have access to the internet in thier hostel rooms and almost all of them download porn on a daily basis![]()
Yeah that's right. Personally, I had some of their collection previously..... Oops not to mention.
Anyway, Students do gain that bandwidth access when they are at the institute lab(s).
And in hostel, the bandwidth though much much lesser yet when compared to us, it's just light years ahead!
And to ur question, let me mention that there are certain restrictions for the commonplace people/Indians on bandwidth usage from the Telecommunication Ministry of India. However, there has been some violations in certain parts of the country (e.g. North East, where the infiltration is much higher).
One can gain access to such bandwidth if he/she can gain access to INSAT 2D and 2B directly (and of course illegally by using large volume transponder) but ISRO won't allow you.
Dont worry we will have wimax soon and some of the companies are planning speeds upto 75mbps which is more then enough for meI would be happy with a 4mbps unlimited connection and if its wimax then it will give us the flexibility to take it with you anywhere in the network.
Dont know if you have heard about the new Nokia wimax enabled phones which are due to be launched in India in 2008 sometime.

Take it easy my friend. My company has bagged a contracted to build and seo a website for an upcomming wimax service provider Its parent company is from UK, I cannot disclose the details due to data protection act but Members on this forum will be the first to know about the details
All I can promise at the moment is that speeds more then 2mbps is going to be cheaper then what you pay for 256kbps right now.

Err.. what exactly is this "Wimax" ?? Any website or something?
The one I am designing will be ready in a weeks time, 3 guys have been working on it day and night for the last 2 months. Its a 100% flash website and I am already loving the feel of it. It will be launched some time in June as far as I know but its thier decision which I dont have any control over coz I only have the contract for the website and its seo and nothing else.
Wimax is like wifi but it covers huge areas as opposed to wifi which is only good for a small house or places like coffee shops, wimax on the other hand will cover whole cities and the coverage is more like you get for mobile phones.I have used wimax when I was in pakistan last month for a meeting with one of my clients and I was amazed with the quality.
Nokia will launch a new wimax enabled phone begning of next year in India and India will be the first country ever to have wimax enabled phones.Isint it cool?
I will create a seperate forum for just wimax in a day or two so every one can know about wimax technology.
Just have to wait until the lousy government of India decides what spectrum to provide to wimax internet service providers. There are three wimax service providers ready to roll out thier wimax service in India and the only thing stopping them is delay in the decision about spectrum alocation by the govt of India.
the centre spectrum band which is currently reserved for "ARMED FORCES" ,
is better with low congestion bcoz army got this spectrum "reserved" and hardly uses it , all their communication still goes in DIGI-ANALOG waves that too occupies very little frequency spectrum.... 80% of their allocation has never been used or allocated to any defence station or for communication........
or the higher spectrum bands but they have tendency to give disturbence in at slighest solar activity and also need high power transmiter and reciver ..which is not fesable for mobile as it will use lot of battery power ....
let them decide, but it will be always ,consumers who will set to gain from this![]()
Hmm.. sounds nice..Flash FTW! :P .. Will be waiting for you to create those forums... would be great if we could get 2 Mbps unlimited connections for much cheaper prices than we get a 2 Mbps conn from BSNL.. actually, if it's launching in June (is the site launching in June or WiMax itself?) it's good for me, coz mom had just decided that in June we'll get the BSNL Home 3300 plan..
Off topic > Could you teach me flash web designing, btw, ? :P![]()

Today one of the leading news papers - TOI reported aout WiMAX on how it could help the BPO's where BPO's can allow their staff to work from home with the help of WiMAX. Hopefully some big company take the initiative to push this through, come on Reliance![]()
Its the website which is being launched in June not the services. They cannot launch services before the government decides on spectrum for commercial wimax services. I cant teach you flash because I dont know flash myself, its my employees who are working on the website not me.
Reliance is not launching wimax anytime soon but only renting thier towers which they are erecting every where these days.
