I have a broadband connection (BSNL Dataone) which I have been using for the last 2 months without problem.
Recently I shifted to a different room in my compound, approx 60 m further from my previous room, and moved my telephone line to the new location. I used a mix of copper and aluminum wires, each of about 30m length, to extend the telephone line to the new location. Everything went well with a total of 3 joints in the extension line. The phone is working fine and the modem is connecting to the internet over PPPoE.
Now for the problem. Whenever I try to surf the net, pages take forever to open. On doing a speed test from Speedtest.net it gives the desired D/L and U/L speeds (0.5 Mbps / 0.25 Mbps) but latency is around the 1500ms mark. If I try to ping the google server or open dns servers the result is same.
Also when i try to download games in Steam or utorrent the speeds are very good. Around 60 to 100 KBps. But simple webpages like the Google home page take over a minute to open.
My guess is the latency. But maybe I am wrong.
Could be the cheap aluminum. Not the modem as i have removed firewalls and tried in bridge mode also.
So please help me someone.
Thanking all of you in advance.
