    Default Downloading speeds

Can someone clarify me with something.

    I have a 256 kbps broadband.While downloading a file I normally(mostly) get 50~60 kbps.But ocassionally speed goes way high max 250 kbps(FOR A MINUTE OR SO). I even downloaded 1(ONLY ONCE) file at 215~ kbps(VERY VERY RARE).Why does this varies so much?

    1. Try a download from Microsoft and report the speed.

    2. Post your SNR and attenuation values.

    3. Go to speedtest.net, perform a speed test and post the result /screen shot.

Your speed is too good for a 256 Kbps. I don't see any reason to complain. In fact for 256 Kbps you should get no more than 32 KBps.

The speed you are getting is fine.

    256 Kbps = 256/8 = 32 KBps

Kbps = Kilo bits per second.

KBps = Kilo Bytes per second.

Of course, it is a trick by ISPs. They like to advertise 256 Kbps as customers will feel that it is too high. Two years ago, when I first joined this forum was to ask the same question. Be relaxed. Use a good download manager like IDM.

    Always welcome

I think the trick no longer works. But there are is some workouts like using Rs. 999 Plan which gives unlimited bandwidth and costs Rs. 999 per month. Check the BSNL 3G section here.
