    Default Single threaded downloads/streams

OK, this has been happening since months now.. I don't think I have ever received 60-70 KB/s from file-sharing sites (Rapidshare, Hotfile, filesonic, letitbit.net), or streaming websites like YouTube, Grooveshark, or possibly anything of that sort.

Fact is, when I download a video from YouTube using IDM (which means multiple streams/threads), I get 55-65 KB/s. Same video, same connection, same session, same time- stream it on YouTube and here is what you get...

    0 - 511 - 126 - 0 - 0 - 0 - 0 - 0 - 45 - 0 - 0 - 455 - 701 - 0 - 0 - 342
Each number represents one second, all speeds are in kbps (bits)

Now another strange thing is... from all the file-sharing sites and from YouTube, I get 55-65 KB/s in the morning until about 10 AM, after which it drops to the same behavior as shown above (erratic speed), only that the speed does not cross 10 KB/s.

Any idea what's wrong? Definitely from BSNL's side.
The explanation above clearly demonstrates that my line is capable of achieving the supported speed. 512 kbps, unlimited plan.

May be line congestion. You can try talking to the SDE of your exchange.

You can also try complaining here. Members report prompt respons

If nothing works, a written complaint to Nodal officer and / or Appellate authority will help. ID and phone no. on the backside of your bill. Call them and seek help.

Hope you checked your SNR and attenuation values. Make sure they are within the limit.

    Wink

According to the theory in a 512kbps connection one shouldn't receive 64kbps. But there must be some problem in BSNL's "sinkhole of support" that the transfer speeds go way high and way down sometimes.

Line congestion since over an year? And line congestion everyday after 10 AM only? I don't think so either.

    Alright, I'm registering a complaint here: http://mis.bsnl.co.in/pgs/internet/pgwebregn.asp

What do I fill in Place/Exg-Code?
I filled in my city in the second field of Address, so wondering if that will go here actually.

Not sometimes, for single-threaded connections, it has always been that way for me. It's only the morning time they work like they should.

For Exg-code you will just have to give your STD code as far as I know.

Usually the first 3 or 4 numbers is the exchange code.
You are filling up std code also in another box.

Still: Did you find your Exchange code to enter in the form !!!!
    1.
Many posts of mine carry addditional information/ links,/pictures/etc to enable other members use/perusal also.
    2.
Before raising a doubt, a simple search on Google would have
cleared your doubt, which I do often.
By answering silly questions like this I also improve my useless knowledge !!!

    QUERY
    Maybe I don't know.
But essbebe are u sure? coz then my aunt and my exg-code should be the same .(Though she lives in the South Kolkata.)
