    Default Linksys password protection

    Hi Guys,

My name is Vivek and I have just got a new BSNL ULD 1000 BB Connection. I have a Linksys WRH54G router and my BSNL Modem is AN1020-20. My connection is still unsecured and anybody who can view my network and can access my internet without any restrictions.

I have tried to configure the router by going to the IP address 192.168.1.1. Instead of taking me to the Linksys admin page, the IP directs me to the BSNL Login page, which is weird! I am a noob in this regard and have absolutely no idea how to go to the Linksys login page. Please could somebody help me configuring my Router and discourage others from using my internet without my permission.

I am sorry if I may sound a Spaz but I have no idea how to set this up. I previously had a Sify connection which required me to login with a password, hence I didnt bother setting the Linksys router earlier. Now when I need it, I am unable to do so!

Please somebody help me ASAP! I will be much obliged!

    regards,

    Vivek

Enter ID and password as admin. I think AN1020-20 is a wifi modem. Do you see an antenna on the backside ? So you won't be needing a router.

    Check this link for settings

    Hi Dilip,

I don't think it's a Wi-fi modem. I don't see any antennae on the modem. The backside of the modem reads "Type-B2".

I also tried to access the link you provided but the BSNL portal page is different from what is in the link.

    Really appreciate your help!

    regards,

    Vivek

    My connection is still unsecured
Confirm you can connect to Internet in WIFI mode and can surf.
    For future reference :
The picture you have posted is similar to Nokia Siemens C2110 B2 type adsl modem.
Presume you have used PPP/PPPoE mode. and can connect to Internet.
( Your USERID/PW entered /stored in WAN page of modem )
Check "TERACOM" link for links with screen shots.
    Ignore WIFI pages.
    http://downloads.vmcindia.com/vmcadsl/user_guide.rar
for user manual. No need to try the patch now.
    .
    2. Presume already connected to WIFI.Linksys WRH54G
Just connect Rj45 from modem to Internet Port of Linksys
another Rj45 cable .Lan1 to computer ethernet port
    of computer.
In the model itself on the label Ip address will be printed. or 192.168.2.1 or 192.168.0.1
    try either and access linksys.

    India Broadband Forum
download this file for wifi settings. to enter security.key.
    Pages may be same.

    Feedback.

    Hi essbebe,,

I am infact able to browse my internet through Wi-fi. But unfortunately I am not able to understand what you wrote previously. I am a newbie and I don't know anything about this sort of a connection. I have never used PPP/PPOE mode of connection before.

I have attached screenshots of my modem and router for your benefit (and mine too :P).

    Code:
IF IT works do not repair !
Please could somebody help me configuring my Router and discourage others from using my internet without my permission
    .
No idea whether your WIFI network is protected.

    In your computer check this.

    NETWORK show all connections.
    See your wifi connection .
Does it show secured or unsecured ?

Switch off wifi router when not in use.
If your tariff plan is unlimited usage , no worry!!!!

absolutely no idea how to go to the Linksys login page.
Did you try to access the wifi router menu pages by typing
    192.168.0.1 ( YES /NO result )

    or 192.168.2.1 (Yes /No result )
    )
or the address given in label of Linksys' router ( YES NO. not seen)

I infact have an unlimited plan. It's a 2mbps connection upto 15gb after which the speed drops to 256 kpbs.

As I speak to you, I see somebody is using my internet. The speed has dropped significantly.

I am very adamant on setting up my router password. It's showing unsecured. Is there any way you can help me out? Do you want me to give you screenshots of the connection to my modem and router? I am negligent. Sorry about that.

I am not able to open the Router page. Not 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.2.1

    OK. Let me try.
    check your IP address here.
What Is My IP Address? Lookup IP, Hide IP, Change IP, Trace IP and more...
    say 117.xx.xx.xxx
send a Private message to me.
    Remain ONline

    2. In computer:
    Start Select RUN
    type cmd
    New window will open
    type ipconfig /all

for wlan connection what is the IP shown ?

IP address given does not work.RECHECK.

Type your ip address and when you get the window

does it appear like this now also ?

    leave ID box blank.
    password admin
can you access wifi router menu pages now ?
    feedback.

somehow you have to access wifi router menu pages and enter the mac address shown above in the white list menu page.

    http://www.pcwintech.com/files/scree...RTP54G/007.png

    Or
use a wep or wpa security key.

    http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.as...rticleid=19073

    try this:
remove cable rj45 from modem end.
    Internet connection lost.
    try 192.168.1.1 admin admin.

    @ vivekformaha

How many devices do you want to connect to your wifi connection ? You can set a MAC filter white list in your modem. By this way only those systems whose MAC ID is entered in the MAC filter will be able to connect to your wifi network. You can always allow or deny any device from accessing your network. You can also black list (in the same MAC filter page) a device if you know its MAC ID.

Check the DHCP page of your modem for the table of listed devices with Device Name and MAC ID.

    OPTION 1:
Do not use WIFI mode. use only ADSL modem. or switch OFF LINKsys wifi router when not in use.

    Option 2 :
Take the modem/router to BSNL Broadband Section,
and request them to set a security code

    Option 3:
If not possible, , get a new BSNL WIFI router with security settings
on rent Rs 80/= PM. Deposit Rs 1000/= or
outright purchase Rs 1800/= plus 10.3 % Taxes.

As you have an unlimited Plan, you won't get bill with huge amount.

    Para two:
Explain how you use wifi mode in your house/flat complex.
Height of your flat ? ( if in a flat complex). How many computers/laptops in use ?
Radius of activity in WIFI mode ? say 30 feet 60 feet.

    Precaution :
Keep the wifi modem flat on the table, to reduce signals range.
    ANtenna parallel to ground.

Incidentally I have tried doing what you mentioned to me just now. The BSNL technician had come home today morning and all he did was scratch his head and go back. Can you msg me your email id if you don't mind? I would like to share a couple of screenshots and maybe you can tell me if this looks Okay to you?

OK. Each system has a unique address.
Your adsl modem address is 192.168.1.1

Disconnect Modem end RJ45 cable going to to Linksys.
    Try now 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.2.1
for Linksys we have to change it to say 192.168.2.1.
a laptop when connected will have say192.168.1.4
Desktop will have Ip address say 192.168.1.5 etc
