Arrow How can I practice Linux terminal command through windows XP

Hi, I am an engineering student. There is a subject called "Computer Networking Lab". In this subject I have to learn various linux commands and their operations. But I want to practice them in home apart from the tutorial at the lab.
I'll be grateful if anyone guide me On this topic.
    Thank you..............

Use any Live CD and you can load Linux in your machine without installing. I have used Knoppix and Ubuntu. Has downloaded Fedora. Still to try.

I think there is a desktop version for Ubuntu. It will work like just another program installed in Windows. Or you can install Linux as dual boot.

You may also try Virtual box or similar.

I will recommend installing a linux virtual machine ( option 2 as suggested by dilip ). you will have a full working linux system, can write store scripts. configure / install any addition software like database and webservers.

let us know if you need anyhelp setting up linux virtual machine ( virtual box ).

HI, I've VMware installed, can you help me to configure that?
If you are comfortable with virtual box I will download that for my practice.

Hi dilip, I have created a thread months before titled "I'm getting 10th part of promised speed". You posted on that thread, they were helpful, I've learnt many things from that. Recently I've debugged the problem. I had two parallel phones connected, and my connection was wrong. I bought a splitter and attached it before the cables goes to the phone and the speed got back to 200kBps(~1.6 Mbps). But thanks for helping me, there was so much to learn....

and I've used Ubuntu for some days. To have administrative preivilage I had to use the "sudo " prefix for some specific commands like "passwd". But I'm searching for some better options.

Use Cygwin. But some networking commands will never work.
