Default Why there is frequent drop in net connection ?

    Hello All,

My internet disconnects frequently. I checked the ping status - it shows request time out error.

    1. When I ping the default gateway - it didnt show any request time out error but it pause a second to start the next one.
    2. When I ping (yahoo or google.com) - it shows request time out error.

I have this issue for the past 6 month. Still not able to find what the problem is?

    1. BSNL guys have checked the line and phone - everything fine
    2. We had a parallel connection earlier - now they have removed all the parallel connections - but still the issue persists.
    3. I'm using kaspersky anti-virus software. I've checked the net connection by disabling firewall, and anti-virus still I get request time out error.
    4. I've changed my old modem and bought new BSNL wifi modem wherein I've disabled wifi.

Can anyone tell me what was the problem and why it happens?

Mods, if this is already discussed please merge it with an existing discussion.

    Thank you,

    Gaur

    Hello Essbee,

    1. My modem Model Number:

Teracom model no: T2-B-GAWV1,4U10Y-BI (Found at the back side of the modem)

    2. Under advanced option, I didnt find the things you have mentioned. I've attached the screen shot.

    1a.JPG

check speed possible with present line conditions.
The ADSL and ADSL2+ Line Capability Estimator
    3. Attached the screenshot.

Quoting Meetdilip's response to my post in the other thread:
Presume this means you have changed the cable connecting your modem and PC.
    3. LAN card is the socket where you plug in the ethernet (RJ45) cable from modem.
    4. Changing modem's password won't affect the connection. Try GDMT as mentioned in other post.
    5. I see a box before splitter, hope it is just the receiver box to which the line is connected from the BSNL junction box and no other connections are taken from the box.
    6. Did you try connecting the line directly to the modem bypassing the splitter ?
    7. May be the splitter is faulty, replace it and check
    4. No, I didnt change the cable. The software engineer replaced something in CPU and said it as Ethernet.
    5. I see a cable connecting Lan and CPU.
    6. Earlier it was connected directly and now the BSNL guys have connected as given in my previous diagram.

    7. Finally, this is how my net connects.

    To do,

    1. Change the ethernet cable and check.

    2. Connect directly to modem and check.

    3. Ask a technician to check the LAN card. Open the cabinet and clean it so that it is dust free. Take out the LAN card, clean it and its socket, put it back and check.

    @ Dillip,

Thanks. Let me change ethernet cable and check the Lan card.

    @ Axel,

Thanks for your detective work. But you are wrong ! Good that I've blurred out my IP address. MY ISP is BSNL only. Those ping details are from yahoo URL.

Okay, can you tell me what is the problem with the configuration?

    @essbee,

I'm afraid to change the AdSL settings right now as the BSNL staffs told me to stop my research work.

If you haven't changed any of your modem settings or installed some kind of stupid software the problem is almost invariably on BSNL's end.

The exact same problem happens to me too (and presumably everyone else that uses BSNL).

There is packet loss and line drops at unpredictable times, but most commonly at times between 11am and 7pm.

There is no fix for this; it's something that happens with BSNL - they have a garbage backup system and whenever they do any kind of repairs or change their already crap routing, you'll see packet loss or line drops. In addition periods of very high latency and high packet loss are also a given when load at peak times is not managed properly.

Add to this the usual incompetence at your local exchange and you get a gloriously reliable super fast broad(lol)band connection in the world's leading IT super power (lol).

The only real "solution" is probably to get a secondary internet connection when you can sense an incoming failfest in your connectivity. Airtel/Reliance/some cable net isp (however remember that all of these are equally bad and more expensive than BSNL).
