    Default Help needed in getting BSNL Broadband

    Hi Guys,
    I am newbie to this forum and also newbie to broadband in India. So please excuse me if i ask stupid questions. I need broadband internet for 3 months starting from april. i assume that only option i have is BSNL broadband because i am going to stay in a village. I know there is ADSL but not sure about the speeds.
    I am thinking of getting a prepaid broadband because it is only for 3 months. I will be using the internet for VPN(working from home) and VOIP. I have lot of doubts in mind. Please help me?
    1. What is the maximum speed of ADSL i can get in village?
    2. What is the procedure for getting a prepaid ADSL connection and how long does it take?
    3. I saw a promotional offer on BSNL website for a prepaid package called BBV RL 1750 which gives 30GB for a validity of 90 days. What needs to be done before buying this package? And what is the speed of this package?

    Thanks in advance

    Where do i get the contact numbers for exchanges? Who is responsible for providing the ADSL connection? Is it the guy in exchnage(village) or nearest town?

    @ Axel

    I think the link does not have pre paid plans. Please check.

    @ kotesh

    You can find the plans here

    Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd.

    It takes about a week or two if you give a written request to the local exchange. Make regular follow ups for better result.

    There are plans which give up to 4 Mbps speed, but expect somewhere around 2 Mbps in actual. Depends up on the distance from the exchange and line condition.

    Hope you are referring to this link

    Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd.

    You can select the telecom circle and responsible official's contact no. here

    Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd.- India's No. 1 Telecommunications Company

    @meertdilip
    Plan selector has URBAN/RURAL box.

    @kotesh
    Go to your nearest Exchange and fill up the form for a new
    BB connection (and Landline if required )
    or apply Online.
    or send SMS
    wait ....

    Noticed. I didn't recommend Rural plans because they are still in the old 256 Kbps period. General plans are more comfortable for users. Especially since the original poster wanted it just for 3 months.

    Myself tried to get a Rural plan for a friend. Had to visit the exchange a no. of times and it was not fruitful. Since OP is happy with Pre paid plans, Rural plans may not be a good option. Thanks for alerting.

    You may mention, if you feel
    Indiabroadband.net
    as Source of information. in the form.

    @meetdilip
    they are still in the old 256 Kbps period.
    If the Village exchange cannot connect to a higher speed,
    whether it is Prepaid/ or post paid does not matter.

    User has to apply before 31st March to get Telephone/BB installation free. in some Rural plans , modem also given free.
    Telephone may be retained after 3 months.

    Select plan , which gives some free telephone calls if needed.

    Wait ...... checking
    Yes . Option not included in plan selector.
    I will be using the internet for VPN(working from home) and VOIP.
    Prepaid: additional charges @40paise /per MB will be a drain on your budget.
    You can disconnect Broadband/telephone after three months.

    Exactly, BB Home Rural Combo ULD 500 is what I tried to get when UL 750 had only 256 Kbps. It remains to be the only unlimited plan for the rural users. Even now (ie, after the upgradation of UL 750 to 512 Kbps), there is no change in speed of BB Home Rural Combo ULD 500. It still gives 512 Kbps upto 6 GB & 256 Kbps beyond 6 GB. Hence remains to be an out of date plan for users of UL 750.

    @meetdilip
    Whether the user will get the Rural connection is not definite.
    Whether the village is included in the Rural USO plan, and a spare
    connection is available. ( usually 28 out of 32 connections).

    Wait for feedback , after his visit to the Exchange.

    Hi Guys,
    Thanks all for your help. I have sent my brother to bsnl office to apply for prepaid broadband and they said prepaid broadband is not available in our area and only option available is postpaid. The post paid option they have provided me is 4Mbps unlimted for Rs 1350 which i can not see on the BSNL website anywhere.
    So ihave applied for the option. I need see how the sppeds will be because my home is not far 500 meters from exchange.

    Now i have unrelated question. Our place there are heavy power cuts. So i will need back up for my laptop and ADSL wireless router. Back up should be for atleast 8 hours. What are the solutions available and is anybody using any solution already.
    thanks once again.

    Check for BBG Combo ULD 1350 here : .:COMBO BB Unlimited:.

    Most of the 4 Mbps users report that they get only 2 Mbps. If you are having the same problem, contact the SDE of your exchange and ask him to lift the cap on your connection. Other than that, being 500 M aways from exchange will give you good speeds provided your line condition is good.

    As for power issue, you can add batteries to your UPS or simply buy an inverter.
