Question package limit is crossed despite normal use

    Hello,

I have a sterlite modem connected to a intex 8 port switch, i have three desktops connected to it and a laptop, one more laptop is used but not regularly, the only activity is simple browsing on all the systems, one of the desktops uses a magic jack for speaking abroad and is used for 30 minutes daily,
recently i changed my package from 750Rs to 900Rs, i have safe network key for wireless access.
My question is with normal browsing and magic jack use my usage has crossed the 8GB limit which is available on the new package and the speed has dropped to a dismal 256 kbps as mentioned in the plan .within 2 weeks, how could this happen when my usage has always been consistent, there is no hacking evidence as seen by the vlan tagging on the mac ids in the self care portal.
Thanks if someone can help me with this

perhaps you have automatic updates for your OS enabled and also the antivirus updates.
these things have been eating the bandwidth.
many times files like Adobe etc call for updates and compatibles like chinese font , what not!
try to disable auto updates.you can always updated selected files manually, if at all needed.

Check at BSNL portal. Find out how much data did you use in last 3 months. Check whether it is greater than 8 GB in total. Does normal browsing allow YouTube ? If yes, one sunami video can be around 30 -50 MB. Also websites (especially the cute looking flash ones) are getting heavy these days. Audio transfer too add to the bandwidth consumption.

To give any constructive idea, need to know your usage in last 3 months. Check and report.

    Download NetworX application.
(If link given here post goes for moderation )
    http://softperfect.com/products/networx/

Install in each Desktop and laptop.

VOIP data (depending on audio codec used ) will not be recorded.
Usage Data can be calculated only from the modem
( with all other systems OFF)
    ( approx 1 GB for the month 30 minutes/day)

Use Firefox Browser with add ons Flashblock/Adblock plus
NoScript to reduce data usage by 30 to 40 % in each machine.
Other suggestions given above also useful.
