How do I connect internet to TV via lan?
I have modem BSNL UT-300 R2U (2-3 yrs old)
TV model is Panasonic TH-P50V20D it has a lan port
The TV manufacturing date is sept 2010 and i want to upgrade its software, also want to try streaming youtube videos (just for the heck of it)

that i know, but i have a internet TV that can directly connecet to internet itself using wifi (and possibly lan), thing is i need a username and pass to connect to internet using my bsnl modem,
so can i provide internet to tv via lan or it can be connected through wifi only?

or any other way to update its software?

Not understood. Once you connect to Internet using Ut300r2u
to use any other desktop/laptop connected via switch/wifi router etc one required. ( For wifi : security key if used )

Both laptop and DVD recorder ( with WIFI) can be connected to enabled TV. Not familiar with the set up. have seen in use in U.S

Need to connect desktop or laptop in wifi mode
additional wifi router needed ( example Netgear wgr614V9 )

Lan ports in wifi router MAY be connected to TV.

I am not sure/familiar about this . set up.
Please await other members suggestions.

Ok i got it, i will probably need a router here... and connect the PC and TV to the internet simultaneously, I dont thing buying a router will be worth. (well whats the cost of a "well to do" router?)

Laptop has a HDMI output and the screen resolution of laptop is full hd

I meant I need to Dial the connection using a user-name and pass (bridge connection)... failed to configure pppoe using the guides given in other threads here

Ok i got myself WA3002G4 which is wireless and router with 4 lan ports,
I am not able to to access internet after getting it in pppoe mode...
I am getting the IP address on the modem page, but somehow the PC is not using the internet connection (or something like that), I calles the BSNL people and again did all the settings they told me. It failed, and they told me to use the bridge mode, and said we dont know about this modem and hence we will see what can be done (ignored me)..
have i forgotten anything?

Make sure that you have configured properly in PPPoE.

Can you log in to the modem using 192.168.1.1 ?

Are you sure that PPPoE configuration is correct ? Double check the settings.

yes i am able to access the modem,in the wan page it is showing an ip address besides the 1st menu, status is "up", i checked all the settings, 1st acc to bsnl calcutta web page, then other by justforkix, (settings almost same)...

I think the modem is configured properly, some problem in PC not using the connection??

I double checked all the settings, on the calcutta web page and also when i called the BSNL customer care.. I am able to log in the modem page by using 198.168.1.1

In the wan page besides the 1st column it is showing status as up and also showing an ip address 117.xxx.xxx.xx... I am currently in bridge mode..

UPDATE:

Configured PPPoE and connected to TV, under test connection everything shows OK, but it says connection to server failed

Reset the modem and configure again and check. Most of the time, it will work. If your bridge mode is working properly and you can log in to the modem and still you got no connection, then something is wrong with modems settings.

Enable DHCP in your modem and check.

In your PC (all machines) under TCP/IP properties of your connection, set " set obtain IP address automatically ".

DHCP is enabled... no i am getting frustated!!... will try again.

whether you have a Desktop or laptop. Details.
Whether( If laptop) you can surf the Internet in wifi mode.
( no connections/cables from Modem/router.

I made it!....
I enabled IGMP and NAT and I am online on pppoe mode... but it cost me a modem,
I tried firmware upgrade on my ut300r2u and I lost it, its not getting resetted... i has just hanged...it had served me for 2 yrs

any way to being it back to life

Next I will try to setup DLNA... I already got the router, will need long LAN cable(s)

Are you using IPTV ? What is the benefit of having this set up ? DTH service is inferior to your current set up ?

The internet thing was just to update the TV system software which was i guess 30-40 MB, youtube is for fun, and picasa is really good on a big TV.

DLNA if used properly is really awesome, like i can connect my PC/laptop etc. to the TV and play movies, music and view photos using only a LAN port.
As most of the HD movies are 8-12 GB, i cannot put them on a pen-drive to connect to my blu-ray player, i simply plug lan cable from router to bluray and pc, stream HD content from my pc to the bluray player.
for my setup i intend to connect internet, blu-ray player, TV, pc and laptop all together using all 4 ports of router..
Advantages,
1. all systems get internet for updates and other stuff,
2. I can stream HD videos to blu-ray player (without writing or using pendrive)
3. can transfer files etc from PC to Laptop
4. If BSNL goes out of its mind and gives me fast internet with good speed at cheaper rates, I can do a lot more!

And also its the "kida" to try it out , there are no costs involved too, except the LAN cable, I get much more for what I will invest!
