Default Modem AN1020-21 Wifi LED On but no connection

    Hi,

I have been using my BSNL Modem model No. AN1020-21 for about 3 months now, mostly via Wifi with no problems. Over the last couple of weeks I have been having a strange problem.

When I switch on the modem, my laptop detects the Wifi and connects just fine to the internet. But then 5 minutes later, there is no internet connection and my laptop can not even detect my Wifi signal. However the Wifi LED on the router remains on and I can still use the internet via LAN if I plug it in.

If I reset the modem, it will detect the Wifi again and connect to the internet, but then loose the connection again in about 5 minutes.

I have tried reseting my modem using factory reset. But it didn't fix the problem.

Does any one have any clue what the problem is and how I can fix it

Do you use any encryption/password ? Disable it and check.

Default Modem ADSL2+CPE/IAD MODEL:AN-1020-21 not able to connect

My above modem can only be connected to one pc (laptop in my case) wirelessly and it can connect 4 pcs thru ethernet. I am told by BSNL that it cannot connect wirelessly to more than one laptop. Is this correct? My earlier lynksys used to connect to many laptops wirelessly.

    ,
    Incorrect.
If it was set up by them in your location, probably the
MAC address filter was enabled and your laptop's/wlancard MAC address entered.
If you disable it, any number of laptops can access the Internet ( within range ) in same network.

Not true. Either they just want to avoid you or has never tried configuring a modem. It seems this is common with BSNL people. I read another thread also were the BSNL employees bluffed something to the customer.

    1. Disable password and check connecting more than one WiFi device and check. You can add a new password later if it the problem with encryption.

    2. Are you in PPPoE mode ? Enable DHCP in your modem. In the TCP/IP properties of your connection (for all machines ), set " Obtain IP address automatically ".

    3. As suggested above, check whether there is a MAC filter in place. If yes, either add the MAC ID of your other devices or simply disable MAC filter.

    4. Try to connect more than one machine using the 4 Ethernet ports. ie, instead of one port in modem, also use Port no. 2,3 or 4 and connect your laptop using ethernet cable and check.

Default BSNL Mdem not for multi wireless usage?

You wrote "3. As suggested above, check whether there is a MAC filter in place. If yes, either add the MAC ID of your other devices or simply disable MAC filter."
Do I do this in all PCs or only the second one which is not connecting wirelessly but only thru ethernet?

Please mention how many desktops/laptops are in use.
MAC filter or IP filter or White list is menu item in modems/routers.

    (A)
White list means allowed systems in the network
( includes ethernet connected systems also.
Compare Ip filter in Adsl modem/s )

    (B)
    .
Certain sugggestions, given in this forum, the member
should try and give feedback either +ve or negative.

Should not take more than 5 or 10 minutes.
( Except advice to format the Harddisk for
    any modem related problem!)

    (C)
I have always suggested to users to BACKUP present working settings of their modem/wifi router , before changing /enabling/disabling any menu items.

To check whether there is any MAC Filter in place, log in to the modem using 192.168.1.1, take " Wireless Network " from LHS panel, on top of the page, you will find " MAC Address Filter ". Click on it to find an option " Select MAC Auth ", change it to disabled.

Even though I narrated how to disable MAC filter, it is very rare that BSNL do such settings. I strongly believe they just bluffed to you. However, check and report. You can post the screen shot of MAC Filter page if confused.

It will be to wise to take a working backup of your settings for future use. You can do this by selecting Admin in LHS panel > Backup & Restore > Backup Configuration > Backup.

You can later use the " restore " function to get things working if you unknowingly change some vital settings.

Always try wifi connection without any Security key.

I am using the same modem with bsnl connection at home. I have tried all the tricks that have been mentioned above and I have been able to set up a wi fi connection with my Samsung net book.

The only problem, but a big problem, is that after every 5 minutes, I have to press on the repair connection icon to refresh the connection as it keeps loosing connection. But on my cell phone it never looses connection

On the other hand when I use my samsung netbook with my office wi-fi (airtel) it works absolutely fine without any issue

Can you guys suggest me what maybe the case? I am tottaly illeterate on thse issues but am willing to learn if you guys make me understand step by step.

    Regards

"samsung netbook with my office wi-fi (airtel) it works " Netbook OK.

my cell phone it never looses connection (*at Home)
Proximity to router ? Distance from WIFI router ?

    as it keeps loosing connection

    Put router at higher height.

    Check Channel No . TRY/select Channel 11 or 6

Click the WIFI icon in TASKbar and check how many bars are green ?
in Home and in office .

Any other wifi Network SSID ( Name ) seen ?

    feedback.

    Thank you!!

Well the distance to the router for both the laptop and the phone will not be more than 3 feet. And the signal strength in both the cases i.e home and office is very good to excellent. So I dont think signal strenght will be an issue here, what do you say?

At office there is no other wi-fi network seen except mine, but at home apart from ours we do catch our neighbors wi-fi network and that is insecure.

For the channel that you suggesting to select i.e 11 or 6. Should I go to wireless network setting, basic settings, channel selection: manual and then select channel: 11/6???
