How many machines do you use ? Switch to Bridge /dialer mode. All ports are open by default.

Which torrent client are you using ? utorrent ?

In preferences > connection > enable UPnP port mapping, Enable NAT -PMP port mapping.

    This may help

@dilip thank you for replying......but as i said i have tried everything thats said in the guide.......i use only one machine and i have enabled UPnP port mapping.......my connection is a year old but i changed my plan recently to unlimited(don't remember the actual plan name)........the problem is when i test my speed it shows around 50-60KBps but i am actually getting only 20-25KBps in Utorrent......i have tried both pppoe and dialer configurations but the Utorrent simply shows like this - "the port is not open(but you are able to download)".....i tried calling the operator but they dont care.......25 Kbps is very slow and its frustrating ....any idea whats wrong coz i m absolutely clueless.....same goes with online games like Fifa Online or Modern Warfare 2......they keep disconnecting...

I think you are using torrent with low seed to peer ratio. Try this torrent and check the speed

    http://releases.ubuntu.com/maverick/...86.iso.torrent

What is the speed you are getting on direct downloads ? Try a download from Microsoft and report your speed.

Post your SNR and attenuation values.

i tried the torrent you mentioned........its average download rate is 24 KBps.......it hardly touches 30.......also i have attached a couple of images showing my speed settings for Utorrent and the other shows some values......check it and see if you can help .....thanks......i think Bsnl has slowed my connection since the plan i took was a special plan which was available for only 3 months....my plan is UL-499........but the important thing is i want to forward my ports which is not happening

This explains all. UL 499 has a speed of 32 KBps maxiumum. Expect 25 -30 KBps on good torrent. The speed you are getting is normal.

BB Home UL 499 gives 256 Kbps.

    256 Kbps = 256/8 = 32 KBps

    Source : .:Unlimited Home Only:.

Me too landed on this forum with the same query. UL 750 then had 256 Kbps. You need to move to UL 750 or Home 500 plans to get better speed.

@meetdillip He is talking about port-forwarding.However Your view about speed is correct.

@ShinuAbr Something in your system has to be blocking that port. And try some private trackers if you want to increase your speed.Might help.

There is cap on your connection at exchange. It is impossible to get speed any more than the cap set. Otherwise you need to hack into the server or get an employee ID and password for better speeds.

Do you see a green tick at the bottom of utorrent as shown in the screen shot ?

Do you mean to say he will get more than 32 KBps if he get the desired port open ? (neutral tone).

utorrent is not port specific. We can use any port other than certain " reserved ports ".

but still i want to forward ports which is not happening......and also if its 256KBps then why does it show around 350KBps during sppedtests....i guess they reduced it coz earlier i would get speeds greater than atleast 30kbps.......anyways i just want to know why ports are not being forwarded in my connection...

    Do a speed test here
    See your average real speed

No I didn't mean that I am just stating his primary wish for port-forwarding...

    @ ShinuAbr

Please check in dialer mode. Presume you took the speed in utorrent as a standard to conclude that port is not open in dialer mode.

Check if you can see the green tick at bottom of utorrent in dialer mode. Try this app, makes things easy

    1. In dialer mode, please use the tool I gave and check the status.

    2. Green tick means port is open (at least that is what I believe). Check this screen shot, you will get the message if you hover your mouse on the green tick mark

    3. If confident, reset the modem again and configure it. Hope you disabled Windows firewall. Other than that, there is nothing in Windows 7 which hinders the opening of a port. Me too Windows 7 Ultimate. utorrent working fine in PPPoE.

@Alex thanx for the website it shows 291KBps......but i m not interested in speed......i play online games but it gets disconnected frequently......the game forums say to forward ports....so i m using Utorrent as an example to see if ports are forwarding.....

@dllip - i have done everything that said in portforward.com and also downloaded its apps but the portchecker tool says "port is not open,we were not able to ping your router" ......right now my configuration is in dialer mode......

Resetting may work. If not, only option seems to be installing XP as dual boot.

Strange ! It should work. Earlier I had a similar issue with Comodo firewall. I had to uninstall to get connected to internet. Turn on the firewall, assign " allow " for your application and check. I have heard that Windows Defender causes such issue. Hope you have disabled and checked.

No idea. I tried to install it after a full system format and next after getting a new hard disk. No success. Now using Zonealarm. I too tried disabling it (some one year back, so not sure) but had to uninstall it in the end. Use Revo Uninstaller while installing such programs. It can remove all traces.
