I agree its a bit too far but I think if our government can make this happen our country will see a massive boost in its economy and will add to the already booming economy.I can assure you that our growth rate will shoot to two digits once our government starts providing free broadband even if it would have data transfer limits like 1gb or little more. it will kick start our online economy like it did in USA (they have free wifi covered cities).

    Go Maran Go for it

    hi,
Agreed ..it is possible to provide free access but in our country ...not now and not in 2009..it will take time...like USA and other country they are provoding free access point (99% wireless only) at public places (airports/rstaions/educational org. etc..)..dont you think ..what bsnl/mtnl should try ..is to provide free access to these location first ...just think about it ..

I dont agree with you on this one ^
The point of free broadband in India is to increase internet penetration and not making life more easier for the high flying executives who use thier flashy laptops at airports and public places as that is already provided by gsm operators and cdma operators for a cost.

The whole point of providing free broadband is to make it a way of life for the poor who cannot afford it otherwise and my understanding is that if you want to use it for downloading movies then the free datatransfer will not allow it as the free option will have very limited amount of data transfer for free otherwise the campaign will loose its purpose.

The question which now comes to mind is how will some one who cannot afford an internet connection buy a computer? well the answer is that computers prices have been going down contineusly for the last 5 years if you have noticed and one can actually buy a second hand computer for very low prices.
