Thread: BSNL Low upload speed/Vuze yellow smiley

Hello there,

Finally, I got my BSNL BB connection (750 home Unlimited plan) after making calls to a dozen people and finally getting of Tikona. Pheww!!! I'm getting a very good download speed, but a low upload speed (20.1 KB/sec) making the whole experience bad. Pingtest results are not very convincing.

Packet loss - 0% (which is good and is consistent)
Ping - 276ms (bad)
jitter - 3ms (not bad, but this was higher during peak hours)
Grade D - not very good, again.


Also, on vuze I'm getting a yellow smiley which indicates some problem with NAT configuration.

1.) Plan - 750 home Unlimited
2.) Modem - dna-a201bei
3.) OS - Windows7
4.) Lan Card - NVIDIA nForce 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet

Any help would be much appreciated.

I am also on UL 750. 20 KBps is the normal upload speed. It also depends on the total no. of seeds and tracker preferences. But on multiple torrents, I have achieved 20 + 20 KBps upload. Since you are getting proper speed, I don't think you need port forwarding. Using utorrent, may be you should try your luck in that.

Ok, this is the second day and when I switched on the modem in morning, it stopped working.

Power LED is not glowing, and PC is not showing as connected. I've been trying to reach helpline/complaint phone nos. but nobody is picking up phone.

The little I know about Dataone Broadband Services offered by BSNL

1. Did you by any chance set the power switch off and forgot ?

2. When you power ON the modem, all lights will light for a few seconds. Is this happening to you ? Or even when you power ON the adapter no light blinks ?

If possible get a spare adapter from your friend and check with it. If working, fine, unless it is a modem fault. Try resetting modem and check.

Get a friend's modem or and check at your place. If it works with its own adapter, your splitter and ethernet cable are fine.

What is your actual download speed ?

normally I get 60-70 KBps in download and in upload from 25-35 KBps

It is normal speed. I don't use any torrent

Thanks for updating. So do you upload to one click hosting sites ? How you got the values 25-35 KBps.

I upload only to these - youtube, dailymotion, hulkshare, multiupload and few more depending on instruction from my website administrator

Oh, YouTube has finest of servers and this might be standard values. Rep added.

Ok, finally, I'm somehow (without any help from BSNL CC) able to make this modem work. The problem i'm facing is whenever i switch on/restart my modem, i've to try different combination of modem positions/doing multiple resets.

I'm planning never to switch off this modem. :P. Seems like i need to get this modem replaced ASAP OR if somebody knows how to configure the modem correctly.

You are having the same problem as me. As meetdilip said my modem is gone faulty so I start my modem wait to get it identified and then I in the split of second connect (basically I open the connection page while pressing and holding connect as soon as its identified I loose it). This is only how I can connect or if I give it some time, it goes through the dark man prophecy and works like plastic baton... and then I'll have to restart it again.

What a process huh...

What is the process to get it replaced? Is there any reliable CC no. for such complaints?

For prompt action, take the modem with you to the local exchange. They will check and tell you what to do next.

Go down to the exchange and make their life hell. Its the most fast and reliable process rather complaining.As I did today at he exchange.

They said my model is out of stock. Then I said you idiots don't have a type II modem in your stock and many other things. In the end they said an engineer (pankhor bhikhari) will come to my house tommorow and check the problem.
Who I'm damn sure will not come.

So take a guess about the process...

btw...which modem from BSNL i should opt for? In case, I'm going for a new one, I don't want to take the same model now.

Try to get Nokia Siemens C2110. I am using it since 2 years. Quite happy with performance. It is a type 1 modem and don't have WiFi. But I am not sure whether they will give you a choice. Normally they make you take what they have in stock.

My adapter is faulty. I called them today, they want me to give both modem and adapter for a replacement. Says it comes bundled. Till I get it back, have to live with Nokia Siemens C 2110.
