You need not worry about ping tests. They give an overall line condition. It is mainly the line from your house to exchange that matters. Hope you are getting promised speed. If not, try
http://www.indiabroadband.net/broadb...onnection.html (How to: get max. speed of a connection)
give speed test results also. and tariff plan.
Browser used.
Try Chrome /Firefox browser.
Download tcp/ip optimizer from speed guide.net.
use above application. Any improvement?
MIne also gives Grade C &D: Windows & pro Firefox4.0 DNS Google 8.8.8.8 speed 512Kbps

Ping test with kuala lumpur and kathmandu, dhaka(all not in india) will be high. Try speedtest. It has mumbai server which gives a ping of 50 for me.
Last year there was a server in chennai for pingtest and I used to get A. Now I also get D for Kuala lumpur and Kathmandu and Dhaka.

I get varied speed test results depending on the server. But on an avg I get around 180 kbps dl speed on good torrents. And my plan is ULF 1100 with 2Mbps speed.
But the prob which I face is, my router mostly hangs up when downloading at full speeds. All the lights on my router will be ON and I've to restart it. This happens almost every time I'm downloading. And that's y I was wondering whether it has anything to do with my Line quality. Any help ??
My router is DLink GLB 802C.
Some of my speed test results ...

Post your SNR and attenuation values. That will give an idea of your local line condition. To get those values,
1. Type 192.168.1.1 in your browser.
2. Enter ID and password as admin.
3. Post the screen shot of the landing page.
This will give a clear picture
Also check using another modem. May be your modem is faulty.

And I dont hav another modem. Can I try any Firmware upgrade for my modem ??
Values are ok. Firmware upgrade is last option. If not properly done, it will brick your modem. Try whether you can get a modem from your friends. I think your's is a modem fault. Or splitter or ethernet cable problem. Checking with another modem will give precise idea.
Pingtests are bad because bsnl routing is awful and unreliable. They use cheaper routes which are typically congested.
The only way to improve pings to specific servers is to spend money on a tunneling service.
If you do care about latency never use always on mode; and set up multiple dialers for different dns servers. Switch between them and pick whichever has a better latency at that particular time.
BSNL actually has slightly better pings than airtel (50-75ms better); I'm not too sure about reliance.
Another thing is that packet loss and jitter greatly influence line quality test results. Again cheap routing, cheap equipment and bad maintenance/backup policies (nonexistent backup basically) are really detrimental to line test results.
None of the above will improve in India in the near future.
There is very little market for high quality internet and almost zero interest to invest in proper reliable technologies like cable internet and fibre optics.
It's a bit funny that instead of actually improving the laughable IT infrastructure, we focus more on crap like 3g.
