    Angry Stealing broadband connection.

Dear members today I am new to this forum and want to raise a serious issue. Some one is using my bb connection.I am using wi-fi , however it is encrypted and also the SSID is hidden. However to day I have observed that some one is using my connection.I checked my usage data from BSNL selfcare site and to my surprise someone using it utmost 24 hours a day.It is used 719 hours during the month of March(one month is 720 hrs).Certainly I have not used that much. For some days we were out of station and nobody was there in the home.During that time also it has been used.

Kindly suggest where might be the loophole and what can be done.

Have you ever changed your Bsnl default password to a more secure one?

Do you change your wifi networks password regularly like every week or so?

    What plan do you have?

    1. How many machines do you use ? How many use WiFi ?

    2. Which encryption do you use ? Try WPA2.

    3. Change your SSID.

Simply enable MAC Filtering and your PC MAC IDs to the white list.

Certainly there is no problem with wi-fi because I am using WEP encryption , hidden ssid along with the MAC filtering. However I had not changed the default pasword given by BSNL.I am using one laptop and a wi-fi enabled phone only.

Whether only by changing the bbpassword will solve the issue.

WEP encryption is very weak.tools to crack WEP encryption along with WPA1 are easily available on internet.use WPA2 with a password consisting of alphabets, numbers & some special characters like $.also change your bsnl default password too.i think there are settings in wifi router where you can see the machines/mac ids connected to the network.test it as you say your network is being used almost all day.if your router does not show any other system besides yours then it will be confirmed that unauthorized usage is not done using your wifi but instead someone used you bsnl account info.

As mentioned above, WEP is vulnerable to hacks. That is why I suggested WPA2 (using myself).

Have you created a white list ? Changing modem password is also good option. But if they can crack WPA2 and MAC Filter, better complain to BSNL/cyber cell of hacking.

    First try WPA2 and check.
