Question Horrible Problem:dataone Downloading Speed Sharing

HI GUYS, I'M USING DATAONE HOME PLAN 500.LAST TWO MONTHS,IM FACING A HORRIBLE PROBLEM WITH THIS CONNECTION.I USED THIS CONNECTION SINCE FEB 2006.NOE OF MY FRIENDS AHVE THE SAME CONNECTION(PLAN 500).

AT THE DAY TIME THE CONNECTION SPEED IS OK.WE GOT NEARLY 2Mbps AT THAT TIME.AND OUR DOWNLOADING SPEED WAS 230Kbps.BUT AT THE FREE TIME(2.00 AM TO 8.00 PM) MY FRIENDS AND MY CONNECTION SPEED IS CUT DOWN AND OUR BANDWIDTH AND DOWNLOADING SPEEDS DIVIDED EQUALLY.I MEAN WE GOT A DOWNLOADING SPEED OF 115 Kbps AT THE FREE TIME.IF ANY MY FRIEND DISCONNECT THE DOWNLOADING,THEN MY CONNECTION SPEED RAISE AND I GOT A FULL DOWNLOADING SPEED OF 230 Kbps.WE ARE THE ONLY 5OO PLAN USERS UNDER OUR TELEPHONE EXCHANGE.ALL OTHERS ARE PLAN 250 USERS.I'VE BOTH ALWAYS ON AND DIAL UP MEDEMS WHICH BSNL PROVIDES.BOTH SHOWN THE SAME PROBLEM.BUT AT THE DAY TIME THE CONNECTION SPEED IS OK.

AND I CONTACTED THE 'NIB'.THE TELECOM ENGINEER (!!!!) TOLD ME THAT THIS IS A TYPICAL PROBLEM.AND THEY NEED TIME TO DISCUSS THIS PROBLEM,SO IT'LL TAKE 1 WEEK TIME TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM.IT'S OVER 2 MONTHS.STILL FACING THE PROBLEM.THE BSNL PEOPLE STILL DISCUSSING THE PROBLEM..EHAT'LL HAPPEN IF THERE WAS 5 OR 6 PLAN 500 USERS?

BSNL PROVIDE INDIVIDUAL LINES TO ALL CUSTOMERS.AND THEY TOLD ME THAT EVERY INDIVIDUAL CONNECTION GOT THE FULL SPEED WHEN ALL USERS DOWNLOADING AT THE SAME TIME.THEN WHAT IS THE EXACT PROBLEM HERE?

    CAN ENYONE HELP ME PLSSSSSSSSSSSS????????

actually its clearly mentioned int he bsnl website that it is not a dedicated connection (ie, not a leased line) and 1 connection is shared by 50 users, so the more ppl living near u connecting to the net, the slower ur net will become... thats y home 500 is 256kbits -2 mbits ... so ull only get speeds above 256 at night coz mostly all of the home 500 users will be using the internet to download sumthing between 2-8am...
ur actually lucky coz in my town there are 11 bsnl customers and i get only -256 - 512kbps at night tho i get full speeds in the mornings

    Question No It Is Not

when i called the bsnl officer,he told me that it can't happen.because they provide individual connection to all customers.and speed sharing never happen.and he also told me that this is a typical problem,no other customers complaint against speed sharing.so they need time to discuss and solve the problem.

its about two months, and the problem is still there.now my downloading speed is 55-60 kbps and my friends is 170-180 kbps when both of us downloading at the same time.bsnl's contention ratio is 50:1. then why my speed is low and my friend's is high?

    and abt contention ratio
in the FAQ section of bsnl.co.in :
    Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd.

    they wrote:
31 What is contention or a contention ratio?
To provide a cost effective service - all ADSL services are contended (shared). These contention ratios are applied in the backbone and international part of the network. A commonly applied contention rate is 50 : 1. All customers are guaranteed the plan rate up to the local exchange or the ADSL equipment to which they are connected. On the shared part of the network a 50:1 contention ratio would mean that a 2 Mbps connection would be shared by 49 others. In reality this is very unlikely to happen and the customer would find the connection much faster than dial-up modems. ADSL relies on individual users not making unreasonable traffic demands on the network to provide fast access speeds for all. If you are not getting the speed you expect, it can be due to the contention ratio but also to many other factors including the congestion at the remote site you are accessing.

may b ur friend is using a download manager with multiple connections and thats y he's getting more speed than u?
