Default BSNL BB weird connection issue

Hi y'all this is my 1st post in this forum.

Recently I have encountered a weird problem with my BSNL broadband connecction.

Let me start from the beginning....

I am a subscriber of BSNL BB from Sept 2005. I had the general plan back then. Even though connection was spotty at times I never had any problem with it.

Fast forward Jan 2011, I decide to change my plan to the Combo ULD 1000 plan.
Now all of a sudden in the first week of May I lost my connection for 2 days. On complaint I was told my username got changed(?) and hence the disruption. While the CSR was no able to give me a reason on why the change happened, she did give me the new username and voila ! i was able to connect.

I also noticed my ip range has changed from 59.XX.XXX.XXX to 117.XXX.XXX.XXX....well maybe this explains why my user credentials changed in the first place.

Now after this switch happened my connection has actually worsened:

    1. Connection drops on an average every 5 minutes, especially if I start browsing after 6pm an this persists all through the night, If I connect in the day time then sometimes I can browse for about 30 min before the line is dropped

2.Whenever it connects the speed is too low, almost comparable to or sometimes worse than a dialup and webpage displays DNS lookup failed

3.The open nds update informs me everytime I connect that my IP is being used by a different user and hence my settings cant be applied

4.Most of the time ADSL link LED is blinking and even when it is steady the connection is as bad it is

So my question to you all is:

    1. What can be the possible cause of this?.... is the ADSL sync not happening; is the 117 IP range worse than the 59 IP range in terms of stability and speed

I have requested the BSNL CSR to revert my connection back to the 59 range and why am I not surprised they dont't know what I was talking about.

    2. Is there any configuration settings in the modem that I need to tweak to get this work?

Some other info y'all might need:

I use the SmartAX MT882 modem... the router is from 2005 and I have not updated the FW ever since because of fear that if I do and it somehow it gets "bricked" the BSNl will refuse to change it

The ADSL modulation is set GDmt
    I use open dns
My WAN settings is set to RFC2684Bridged....the connection never works is I set it to PPP

Use win 7 and can guarantee system is virus /malware free

    Thanks in advance

    1. Post your SNR and Attenuation values.

    2. Confirm modem is in bridge mode.

    3. Check ethernet cable and splitter.

    4. Use a friend's modem and try.

    Upstream:

    SNR: 19dB
    Attenuation: 26.5 dB

    Downstream:

    SNR:10.0 dB
    Attenuation:37.5 dB

    RFC2684Bridged

    Cables and splitters are OK

Most likely the low SNR is the cause of your problems...

Blinking DSL light signifies a bad line.

Call your lineman and tell him to check the line and give you a direct line without any breaks or joints.

    Thanks

    will do that !

are there any specific modem config tweaks required to speed up the connection

also this modem is from 2005 so I might as well ask for a new one and see if they comply

If the modem is in bridge mode no tweaks required.

You can ask them to change to a new modem.

I am not quite sure if bitswap helped it but thanks

    checking
    (a)
IGNORE RESET in step No 15 !!!
    (b)
    In Internet Explorer/ Internet options/ connections/advanced/select
    never dial a connection.
    (c)
or simply delete in network settings wan miniport link.
    (d)
    same here.
FW from Huawei web site not available. Last option .
No need to upgrade.probability of modem going dud.
with FW version from other sources still available.

    (e)
Every dB increase in snr and decrease in attn helps. Changes due to Mod mode to GDMT an d Bitswap enabled gives stable connection )

    report improvement.

Update: DNS problem got resolved after restart of both the m/c and modem

However I still experienced dropped connections now

great now we managed to get my PPoE settings to work

However there is a DNS problem that just cropped up after switching to PPoE:

Using the DNS setting from the calcutta telephones on the LAN card I get a message that my Open DNS is not working, even though I have specifically mentioned the Open DNS parameters in the DNS configurations of the modem.

Now if I change the LAN card DNS to Open DNS ones I get a message that there is a mismatch between the DNS and HTTP IP address.

Either way my open DNS filters are not working
    How can this be fixed?

Most importantly I see a change in the connection as so far it hasnt dropped in the last 40 odd mins. here are the settings I get

    Upstream
    ADSL Link Speed 480 Kbps
    SNR 24 dB
    Attenuation 25.0 dB

    Downstream
    ADSL Link Speed 1984 Kbps
    SNR 9.5 dB
    Attenuation 36.5 dB

    Not needed.
in modem DNS page "disabled" let entries remain.
    Network settings TCP/IP Properties
    obtain DNS address automatically.
    check ipconfig /all when connected.

    for ref:
    Downstream
    ADSL Link Speed 1984 Kbps
    SNR 9.5 dB
    Attenuation 36.5 dB

    one more tweak;
    instead of GDMT select multimode.
    recheck snr attn/
Ensure telephones in all rooms connected AFTER the Adsl splitter or use ADDITIONAL ADSL splitter. for each extension telephone.
Use new short RJ11 cables , with connectors bright ( no blackening rusting)

selected "multimode" but GDMT chosen and got the best values.

yours seems to be selected adsl2 + if you try t413 or g lite connection may be lost.
    really shows some line trouble.
Better go for Mode which gives maximum SNR value. earlier 18 dB.
It was gdmt only. from post no 6.
    Downstream:
    SNR 18.0 dB
    Attenuation 36.5 dB
    ADSL Link Speed 1216 Kbps

Can you try with a diffferent modem ?

download this application ,and apply optimal values.
    tcp/ip optimizer from speedguide.net.
    speed may improve.

    feedback.

    Attenuation 36.5 dB
