    Default BSNL udaan no response

    I guess the udaan scheme is not yet been implemented in Chennai. I applied for PLAN CHANGE on april 5th and still its not been changed.

    And 1 more off-topic doubt. In the modem statistics page
    Output Power (dBm): 12.1 -0.6

    It it normal to have negative value for upstream or is my modem/line at fault?

    Presume you checked in BSNL Portal confirm.
    Did you check again with the lead number in Udaan site /

    Output Power (dBm): 12.1 -0.6
    Since you have posted in this forum your upload is Ok!!!
    If Interested change the mod mode and see any change in Output power .
    Hope you understand all the other parameters shown in Statisitics/ADSL full page !!!
    Check speed at My Broadband Speed - Broadband Speed Tester and confirm.

    I checked the portal page. It does not have any plan change. In udaan site it shows that I have applied for plan change ULD 900(but this is what it has been showing since april 5th).

    I remember some other member(long before) posting his statistics and he also had negative output power for upstream so I guess its not a problem. I have been having this since past 2 yrs and no problems. Speedtest.net shows my speeds are 1.74 mbps(download) and .3 mbps(upload) which i guess are normal for my current 500c plan.

    If Interested change the mode mode and see any change in Output power .
    I guess u meant modem mode. I'm presently at pppoe mode. Long before I had bridge mode and it also had similar parameters(negative output power for upstream). So I guess modes doesn't alter parameters much.

    Here are my other parameters. I guess the snr and attn are within normal limits.(dont know about other parameters)

    Units of dBm are decibels relative to 1 mW of power,
    hence, 0 dBm 1 mW.
    1/100 mW is -20 dBm and
    100 mW is +20 dBm.
    Powers less than 1 mW are always negative dBm values,
    and powers greater than 1 mW are always positive.

    Here are the formulas:

    P(mW) = 10[P(dBm)/10]

    P(dBm)=10*log[P(mW)]

    I meant mod mode ADSL2 GDMT etc.
    3.
    ADSL data seems OK.

    after rate ( kbps ) .....
    No idea . presume some of the errors should be least or zero.

    rep 22 points to @narasimhan1990 for the question

    I tried adsl2+ mode last yr and the speeds were constantly changing and unstable. I found G.DMT to be the most stable mode.
    Anyway I'll try adsl2 mode again and reply.
    And regarding the negative DBm value. I know that the power is less than 1mW. I was just asking if its a source of worry. Can you post your snr,attn and output power values just for reference?

    @meetdilip,i hope you won't mind me correcting some of the common myths surrounding SNR & Line attenuation values here & since you are a frequent & reputed poster i am hoping you will spread this.

    first of all simply saying high SNR value in any situation is good is incorrect.besides line condition SNR value also heavily depends on the rate at which your modem syncs with the DSLAM in exchange.that is why in many european countries/usa where people use 16-24mbps plans their snr values are usually 10-15.in india most bsnl users syncs at ~2mbps so here snr ~30 or more can be considered as good but if & when user start syncing at 8mbps or higher this does not hold true.

    from a known australian broadband forum:

    Dont understand why people are saying that a snr over 30 is good when i can download at 2.35mb/sec and my snr is well and truely below 30
    Sync speed down 23500 up 1000
    snr down 4.5db up 9db
    att down 8.5db up 6.5db
    also the chart you used for attn values is not correct.again from the same forum as mentioned above:
    attn values & expected speeds
    Fremnet.net
    1.0km = 13.81dB = 23Mbit
    1.5km = 20.7dB = 21Mbit
    2.0km = 27.6dB = 18Mbit
    2.5km = 34.5dB = 13Mbit
    3.0km = 41.4dB = 8Mbit
    3.5km = 48.3dB = 6Mbit
    4.0km = 56dB = 4Mbit
    4.5km = 62.1dB = 3Mbit
    5.0km = 69dB = 2Mbit

    my downstream attn is 42 & i get usual ~1.8mbps speed on 500C plan while modem reports max attainable rate as 8mbps.one more important thing to keep in mind is that different modems report different SNR & attn values because of the difference in their calculating method.my nokia c2110 modem reports attn as 36 while my TP-LINK modem reports downstream attn as 42 on same line.
    Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.
    Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
    Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?

    Quite happy to learn new things.

    Does it mean that Attenuation of 69dB is ok for a 2Mbit connection ?

    glad to heat that.as i said earlier snr & attn values can be considered good or bad depending on the situation.attn of 69 for a 2mbps connection in india is most probably a line fault because unlike western/developed countries population density here is much more so it is highly unlikely that a person getting a bsnl 2mbps connection is situated 5km away from local exchange especially in cities/urban areas & also if the same person is getting low snr values too,say below 25,then it is definitely a line problem.however if a user is on a 8mbps plan getting snr ~15 & attn ~30-40 then it is most likely not line fault.

    @essbebe
    I tried the adsl2+ and adsl2 mode and it didn't even connect. The dsl light was blinking for 10-15 minutes but there was no internet light. I changed back to g.dmt and it connected within 30 sec.
    I also changed the modem to type1 and the output power upstream was 15.4. But there is no change in speedtest/pingtest results. So i'm changing back to type 4 modem.
