Which software are you talking about ? (neutral tone)

All you need to follow the step explained with screen shot. If you see the ad, ignore the page and carry on.

Just type 192.168.1.1 in your browser, ID and password is admin

Proceed and follow the steps mentioned in link in post 2.

The link which you just gave me in post 2.
In the page. it is asking to have a static ip address.
But I have a dynamic one.
Thus, the page is telling me to download the tool to make static ip address.

    Don't use that tool.

You can configure a static internal IP address by just going to TCP/IP properties of your connection, Enter IP as 192.168.1.25 (say) and default gateway as 192.168.1.1.

If you are planning to port forward for your modem to get good speed in utorrent, you can just use the " enable UPnP " which automatically allows you to use ports of choice without port forwarding. But experts see it as a security risk and suggest port forwarding. Hope it is clear now.

    Look at the pic.
External Packet & Forward To Internal Host boxes are greyed. Cannot enter the values. Is something wrong?

I use 'Always On' aka 'PPPoE over Ethernet'. And I have already entered ID/Pass in WAN Settings. Internet is working fine but the boxes are grey. Unable to enter the desired values.

    @ gautamhans1

I used to have the same modem. It was greyed for me too. I thought it will be corrected in later models. You can use UPnP or simply switch to bridge mode where all ports are open by default. Just use a good firewall in both cases.

If I change it to Bridging, I will not be able to use WiFi.
So, Enable UPnP is the final option?

Take a back up from " Admin " in the LHS menu. Save it safely in your PC and play with different options in the port forwarding page. It may work for you.

In any case, always keep a working back up of your modem settings. You can later use the " Restore" option from the " Admin " option of the LHS menu.

To Test If Your Port Is Open

    1. Download our PFPortCheck Program
    2. Install PFPortCheck
    3. Run PFPortCheck. Type in the port that you want to check, choose UDP or TCP, and click the Check Me button.

    Source : Open Port Check - PortForward.com

Or simply check utorrent. If port is open, you can see a green tick mark, not an orange yellow triangle.
