Rep Power: 0 | Yes I was able to get it working. I had to enable the DHCP on the modem. Then on the router, I changed its IP address to 192.168.2.1, with Default gateway as the IP of the modem (192.168.1.1 in my case). The type of connection in my router was set to DHCP enabled Internet. PS: Call up the customer care/download the latest firmware for your router. It helps |

Rep Power: 0 | There are different ways in which a DSL modem is configured--PPPoE or Bridge mode. Sometimes ISP requires to create a WAN miniport on the pc. One way is to separate the network IDs of the LAN interface of the modem and the WAN interface of the Router. Usually both the devices use class-C private address of 192.168.x.x. This can be done by ensuring the third octects are different. In this case DHCP of the modem should be disabled and DHCP of the router can or cannot be enabled. you can put static IPs on the PC. User has the option of setting modem to PPPoE and give in the username and password on the modem uei. Delete the dialer created on your PC(WAN miniport) 2nd way is to connect the LAN interface of the modem to the LAN interface of the router. In this scenerio, both the modem and the router need to be in the same network,i.e, they got to have the first three octects of the IP address exact same numbers. That means you cannot enable the DHCP of the router. And you have the choice to use or not use the DHCP of the modem. Remember you can always assign fix IP address to your PC. Just make it sure if your router's or modem's DHCP is on, and you are assigning static IPs to your PC, they should be out of the DHCP range of the router or of the modem. In both cases, the WAN settings of the router should be Dynamic or PPPoE if possible. As for as your PC is concerned, dial-ups and VPNs sometimes do not let the broadband work. Remove them from the connections Tab of the internet options. No proxy should be enabled. RPC service should be on. With linksyswrt54g, you can use 4 wired connections and 32 wireless connections. Make use of the security features: disable SSID broadcast or Turn on WEP or WPA, apply the policy of allowing MACs or denying MACs. Block the ports which you do not require to use. And always change the password of the wireless router. Good luck with browsing |
