Default True BSNL Broadband Speed testing etc

I am on ULD1000 which give upto 2mb upload upto 15GB and then aftr 256kbps.

Once your cross your monthly usage limit i.e.15gb under the plan, thigs are realy realy slow, infact, one cannot even call it broadband speed as it is more like dial-up speed.

e.g to upload 578mb video it will take over 400 mintes (about 7 hours)
I started uploading at 1.40am and got up to see it is still uploading at 8am.

At this so called 256kbps BB speed, one can hardly upload or download smoothly.
It takes ages or it may even stop inbetween, citing upload stopped due to unknown error (this is particularly when you browse while upload in on, even if you try any testers at this time)

Try testing BB speed using various testers while upload or dowload in on.
Most will wont even start and even if they do they get stuck in the middle as I am sure they are not design to test very low BB speed or Dial-up speed.

I tested my speed as follows: (I crossed my 15GB usage limit):

When there is no upload/download in progress
    Result: 259kps (32.4kB/s) Download and 639kpps (80,kB/S) upload

When downloading in on e.g. streaming video clip from youtube etc
    Result: 79kbps (9.88kB/S) Download & 638kbps (80 kB/s) upload

When upload in on (uploading to youtube etc)
    248kbps (31.kB/s) download and 88kbps (11kB/s) upload

why testers say upload speed is 638kbps when it is actually 88kbps?

    I am confused.

Perhaps BSNL's 256kps BB speed not fit to be called as 'broadband' as sometimes, dial up speed does lot better than this

change ur bb plan and shift to either UL 750 or ULD 1350 , 256Kbps is practically
    impossible to use

If you want speed, switch to Home combo 500 or Home combo 600. They give up to 2 Mbps during 2 -8 am (you can automate this process). If you are not satisfied with 256 Kbps, even UL 750 with 512 may not appeal to you. If you are particular about an unlimited plan, you can choose ULD 1350.

@JoeGoaUk: I only JUST switched to that plan! C ULD 1000 MTH. It will take effect tomorrow.

I don't really suppose I will cross the 15 Gig threshold. But are you really getting the quoted 2 MBps speed, otherwise?

Till now, I was on FN C 600 plan. No complaints apart from my BIG usage!

Was about to go for ULD 900 which gave up to 4 MBps, but the officer told me not all places get 4 MBps and advised me to continue with 2 MBps, but with a higher threshold.

In general, though, how are you finding the ULD 1000 plan?

People who were not getting 4 Mbps was due to data cap of 2 Mbps on their port. Once it is lifted, you will get 4 Mbps. Of course due to line condition and many other matters you may not get in some areas, otherwise it is ok.

If you are already getting 2 Mbps in Home Combo 600, you expect the same speed on ULD too.

    Oh, ok...

I was at the BSNL regional unit the other day and the fellow was showing me how things are done.

Even the engineer was wondering how ppl with the 1350 plan got full 4 MBps while those with 900 still complained about lower speeds.

    Weird world we live in.
