    @ananthanandgupta

hii i was facing the same problem with netgear till this point of time but after hours of pursuation i hav finally found the culprit in netgear 'WAN settings' tht was responsible for causing such terrible nuisance, confusion, anger, frustration, depression...wat not...while the pages i was trying were not opening with this great piece of my newly bought DGN1000 modem while there was no problem in opening the same pages thru other bsnl modems.......

Anyway am feeling very relieved nd light now...if u r thinking to experience the same try da same as i did...

Change the MTU value in 'WAN settings' page to 1430...nd Apply!

sorry for bothering u wid my story but i had to vent out my frustration i had...couldnt help it

    @essbebe

hehehe...actually i have seen post no.18 nd at first i followed according to speedguide.net where the site has recommended to increase the MTU value to '1500' after performing the 'sganalysis' of my connection i did the same nd after doing tht change the 'sganalyser' was showing tht the MTU settings r optimised but however it didn work out completly...i was still not able to open some of the sites specially facebook..which was very painful

den later i hav reduced the MTU value..now the speedguide.net website shows me tht my connection is not optimized but guess wat....am able to open all the sites till nw without any hiccups..

Default NETGEAR DGN1000 default MTU value.

    No problem.
    Please mention browser/OS used.
Just to find out whether this will be the default setting for NETGEAR DGN1000 router, and recommend to others.
Selecting such a low MTU value 1430, is also unusual.

    2.
Whether the MTU value also to be changed in the Registry to be verified.
( Not now ). seems default value is 1480 for XP.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/283165
Now frequent complaints are being received about many web sites not opening , and we are forced to use/recommend different browsers.
    Your input can be useful.

    MTU value: variables Modem/OS/Browser/lan/wlan adapter/ISP ???

    PS:
This is all "Garam Hawa" and no "research" has been done !!
"Research" means Search in Google/Bing/other forums specially Australian /blog etc.

from Netgear WGR614V6 help notes. Advanced WAN page

    MTU Size
The normal MTU (Maximum Transmit Unit) value for most Ethernet networks is 1500 Bytes, 1492 Bytes for PPPoE connections, or 1436 for PPTP connections. For some ISPs you may need to reduce the MTU. But this is rarely required, and should not be done unless you are sure it is necessary for your ISP connection.

Thumbs up Finally...this is how I have configured my DGN1000 with Bsnlbb

    Hii frnds,
I am greatly inspired by da way u guys help oneanother to solve eachothers problems nd I wanna contribute my share of knowledge of wat I hav learned through my efforts in solving da problems I had in connecting Netgear DGN1000 (modem+router) with Bsnlbroadband nd I hope dis wud help u guys who might be going thru da same trouble I had experienced before....

Well I cant say for sure tht these r standard settings but these r da settings I had to setup to run DGN1000 smoothly wid Bsnlbroadband...I am having login type of connection so wat I am going to write here is regarding da same connctn type...

The default Netgear settings hav to be changed in da following setup pages:
    1.Basic setting
    2.ADSL settings
3.WAN setup(this has to be changed only when u r not able to open some of the secure websites)

Before changing to below settings first RESET ur modem by press-holding the reset button till all the lights blink at once.
So except for the below changes evrything is same as default settings....

    1. In Basic settings page:
    • Select 'Yes' for login type of internet connection
    • In Encapsulation select PPPoE(PPP over Ethernet)
    • Enter ur Login ID nd Password. Confirm ur ID nd passwrd with ur ISP nd enter it exactly coz first i was entering the ID wrong nd was complaining to customercare tht internet wasnt coming even aftr setting all the settings right.
    • NAT- enable
    • Click 'Apply'
    • Recheck if evrything is as u had set.

    2.ADSL Settings:
    • Multiplexing method - LLC BASED
    • VPI - 0
    • VCI - 35
    • DSL mode - Auto(Multi-mode)
    • Click 'Apply'

    3.WAN Setup:

Here I had set up the MTU value to 1430 nd Click 'Apply'
I had to setup dis coz I wasnt able to open some of the websites like facebook, yahoomail etc..they keep on loading but never open whether in IE or in Firefox or Opera or in googlechrome. Setting the MTU value here(in WAN Setup) would work nd no need of changing in any registry...
I am not sure but dis MTU value might be different for different OS, type of connection and I am using Windows7 OS.

I had found out the MTU value of my connection as so by following the info frm the below link provided by essbebe

    blog.wisefaq.com/2009/09/01/determining-your-mtu-and-why-you-should-care/

    Regards,
    Inspiredlife.

Default Regarding Ideal MTU setting for NetGear DGN1000

Hi guys....my first post on here....

bought this modem router Monday....had a day's trouble to get it to work...(kept entering the wrong password thinking it was right password...had to take it to exchange to get it sorted out)

People buying this modem router after using other ones should know that this modem router doesn't show a 'Internet Connected' status/page straightaway after Internet gets connected...The modem router I was using before buying this one used to show 'Internet Connected' page and I expected this to come but the 'Basic Settings' page remained as it was and this was one of the reasons why I couldn't figure out the correct password by myself...(took the modem to the exchange thinking either something was wrong with my dsl line or the modem was faulty...but it was wrong password...)

Now after getting Internet Connected, the next problem was some webpages were not loading...googled this problem, then came across this forum and found about MTU stuff...followed essbebe's links and determined the rite MTU using the ping method and it turned out to be 1500 (1472+28)...entered this in the router and chekd but to no avail, the pages were still not loading...then tried inspiredlife's advice on using 1430 as MTU and that was it....the pages were loading now...so for those of you for whom ideal MTU derived by ping method is not helping with some webpages not loading, try 1430...it fixed my router problems

    Cheers,

Congrats. You can post a blog and get lot of "hits"!!

    Setting MTU size
    Applications:
    http://www.dslreports.com/drtcp
    or
    SpeedGuide.net :: TCP Optimizer / Downloads

    Para two:

is a process of trial-and-error: start with the
maximum value of 1500, then reduce the size until
the problem goes away. Using one of these values is
likely to solve problems caused by MTU size:

1500. The largest Ethernet packet size; it is also
the default value. This is the typical setting for
non-PPPoE, non-VPN connections. The default value
for NETGEAR routers, adapters and switches.

    1492. The size PPPoE prefers.

1472. Maximum size to use for pinging. (Bigger
    packets are fragmented.)

    1468. The size DHCP prefers.
1460. Usable by AOL if you don't have large email
    attachments, etc.
1430. The size VPN and PPTP prefer.

I had a similar problem, sluggish internet and frequent disconnects with DG1000 that i bought for 2200(Did i get ripped off??) bucks yesterday from SP road . All the leds were green.

Finally by trial and error figured out that setting mode to g&b in Setup-> Wireless seeings helps.
Im wondering whether has to do with some limitation of the wireless adapter of my laptop (W510) or OS(WIN7) drivers

The ping feature in the modem/router was very useful. Pings were 100% successful when sent from modem and failed most of the time when sent from my laptop and i could figure out that it was something between modem and laptop

The MTU change didnt have much impact, maybe latest fimrware has fixed those problems.

Finally, my heartfelt hanks to all folks who had contributed with configs and info regarding bsnl and DGN1000. Contrary to my expectations, the bsnl Customer support was pretty helpful as well.
