Default My OS, Ubuntu 11.04 does not detect BSNL wireless AN 1020-21. Please help.

I had to replace my bsnl wireless modem for some reasons. My old(bsnl) modem worked just fine with both windows 7,ubuntu 11.04 and my mobile phone. My new bsnl modem is AN 1020-21. This modem works fine with windows 7 (both wireless and wired connections). It even works with my mobile phone(wifi). But when I use it with ubuntu I can use it only in wired mode, wireless is not even detected. So, please help me rectify this issue.

Is the problem due to the wireless driver? the driver currently installed says it is for broadcom bcm43xx...and the modems hardware version says Solos 4615 RD / Solos 461x CSP v1.0.

    Please help!!!

No idea about linux OS.ubuntu 11.04
    (1)
Give details of the Wireless Lan card used and check whether
    updated drivers available for LINUX.

    (2)
anyway give details of the old BSNL modem: make/number.
    (3)
wireless is not even detected (* IN LINUX mode )
May be some setting in AN1020_21 ? Hide SSID ?
    Check settings with this file.
    wait......

Just going from the hardware, this seems to be a Connexant CX96410
based device. There is no OpenWRT port, but there are linux sources
for a Linksys device using the same SoC (WAG54G2 v1.0, [1], [2]). Also
the Netgear DG834G v5[3] uses it, and there seem to sources available
    on the netgear ftp [4].

    Thanks for the replies!

First of all, I am new to ubuntu and to this forum.
None of the links that you guys provided actually helped me, and some of them don't even open.

@essbebe : what do you mean by 'wireless lan card' ? and I couldn't find any update drivers.
my old bsnl modem was:- Quidway WA-1003A ADSL MODEM

In your second post, in 'para two' you have mentioned some stuff that seems to be relevant but i dont know how to use it.

In windows 7 search "RUN' command
    Start RUN type cmd Ok
    New window
    type ipconfig /all
the wlan card details will be seen.

    OR

In windows 7 Control Panel Device Manager

Go to company/manufacturer's web site and see
whether Drivers for LINUX OS available.

    @dylan1729:
I have a Dell Inspiron 1720 Laptop with Ubuntu{Latest version 11.xx}. it has a onboard wifi lan broadcom 4312 chipset. configured with hidden SSID and WPA-2 Encryption enabled.

I have a bsnl dataone wired modem connected to Belkin "G" wireless router
I've to compile module using module-assistant. I think broadcom-sta module is used. It needs "Network Manager"(In Gnome right side top corner) to work Fine. Only problem I experienced is wireless can disconnect if screensaver is enabled.
Works exactly as said here. : Ubuntu Forums - View Single Post - [ubuntu] Solution to Broadcom 43xx Card Problem (11.04, Natty Narwhal)
If You can open a terminal(press alt+f2 ,inside type "gnome-terminal" and run)..
once terminal is opened, type "lspci | grep Network"(without quotes). select and copy the output of above command and post here. or as essbebe posted, get the details from your windows os.

For Configuring Wireless Internet, You may use "Network Manager". the applet is seen in the right side top corner in Ubuntu 11.04. click on it to setup wireless.
    a snap:

    Wireless Configuration | Ubuntu Tutorial
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NetworkManager

Sometimes Hardware Switch or BIOS settings may have disabled Wifi. My Laptop has a Wifi switch which was to be set ON to have Wifi enabled.

Note: In Wireless Router, Configure Wireless Encryption for security(WPA/WPA2). there may be a booklet given with wfi-broadband modem/wireless router(or google the model name and wifi encryption).

SSID of the Router is to be noted as it may be needed to be entered in network-manager(ubuntu) settings if Hidden SSID option is enabled.
WPA2 Encryption Key has to be copied to a pendrive and copy it to Ubuntu system. WPA2 Key generators are available online.

    Good luck!

    Hope this helps thread starter.
"Wlan card" detection details given to user. Post No 6.

Please delete @essbebe and continue for @dylan 1729
I am an "addict" of Windows ( starts with DOS 4) !
    No idea about LINUX.
Now Windows 7 automatically searches for Drivers on line.
If it fails then only we have to go "GOOGLE"

Now certain desktops and laptops are preloaded with LINUX ( to reduce cost of OS)and users are not familiar with the details of the O.S
