    Question Strange phenomenon with PPPoE.

    Dear forum members,

I would like to bring a strange experience I had with PPPoE into your attention and to know if any of you had any similar experience. I am new here and I have gone through many posts (in this forum and many others) to find if any one had similar experience with PPPoE.

I have a 2mbps bsnl broadband connection. So far there was only one PC and my mother was using it for some basic net activities. My router is WA3002G4. it was set up in the bridge mode. When my brother came on vacation, he had a laptop and an ipad with him. So we need to connect all the three to internet. So I changed the settings from bridge to PPPoE.

There begins the problem. In bridge mode, I was able to access all websites with out any hazzles. But once in PPPoE, I am able to get selected sites only. For eg all google related sites will work with out a problem. Google, gmail, youtube, orkut all these have no problem. But facebook and many others will not load. The moment I change the setting back to bridge, everything is perfect.

I spent last two days trying whatever solutions I could find in the internet. But all efforts were in vain.

Have you people any idea what could be wrong?

    Please help, Manu.

What is your MTU ? Try values 1448 and 1452 and check.

Till you get a solution, you can use Turbo mode in Opera and open these sites.

    Try a different browser.
Check MTU value. set to 1492 ? or lower values can be tried.
Change dns in modem/router to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
    In "bridged"all ports are open.
    Check Management Access control.
Both LAN side WAn side boxes selected ?
    feedback item wise.

    Congratulations.
Please mention the value of MTU selected. ( for PPPoE mode ) 1448?
( also original entry, which worked for DIALER mode )1492 ?

    Possible explanation: ??

I selected 1400 for PPPoE and it works fine. reached in that value just by trial and error method.

original for dial up was 1492 as you mentioned.

Possible explanation: I leavethat to the the experts in the forum as I have no clue about networking. (or about IT in general - totally different field from my area of expertise )

    Glad it is ok now.

As for UserCP, you can see a green band on top on the page, there you have an entry can UserCP which you can click to see the reputation points received by you and other options. I think essbebe has added reputation points for your feedback.
