Thread: help please to configure.

hello friends,
i am having a bsnl broadband connection at my neibour and he is having iti modem model no. dna-a211-I and he has forwaded a lan cable to my place as i am sharing a broadband connection with him on my desktop.
now the problem start here
as i am also having same model no. modem and i want to just create a wifi hotspot of that connection. at my home. so that my home also become wifi enable.
pelase tell me what configuration i had to make. to make it wifi enable and also continue that connection on my desktop..

please guide me out.

If your modem is not a WiFi modem you need to either get a WiFi router or another WiFi enabled modem.

If you have Windows 7 Home Premium or above, simply use a software called Connectify on your laptop. It will transmit WiFi signals. You can also do the same with your desktop if you have WiFi adapter in your desktop. An USB WiFi adapter costs around Rs. 900. This is the cheapest method as modems cost Rs. 1,500 or above.

You are connecting the RJ45 cable from your friend's Router, to
LAN1 of your Router and then another rj45 to ethernet port.of computer/laptop.

If the distance is not great ( say about 30 feet) your friend can tell you his SSID/security key to you. ( Anyway he has to keep his router on )

i just want to make my modem as a wifi router ... will will take input from lan cable (rj45 cable) and transmit it on wifi .. and i have to do same on bsnl brodband router ...
