    Question please help

    hi
i am a newbie.i recently got a new bsnl broadband connection installed in my house.and the modem model that the bsnl people gave me was completely different from the modem models that were posted in this forum.

the modem model is BEAM I-C.(i think this a new model the bsnl is giving)

AND THE CONNECTION HASNT BEEN STABLE AS OF LATE.evertime i login, the link led pisses of after 5-10 min.i showed it to a private person thinking he could repair it,but he checked and said that the ACT led on ur modem isnt ON and that ACT led should be ON for a stable connection.so he said there was a fault in the modem and said that it would be better to return the modem back to bsnl and buy a d-link modem which works fine.

i am describing whichever lights are on on my modem when i m browsing,
there r 5 leds in total.
    PWR-ON
    LAN -ON
    LNK-ON
ACT-OFF(my connection is 15 days old,and this led has never glowed once)
    USB-OFF

COULS SOMEONE THROW SOME LIGHT ON THIS ISSUE AND EDUCATE ME regarding WHAT SETTINGS ON MY MODEM I SHOULD CHANGE INORDER TO MAKE THE ACT LED GLOW AND MAKE IT A STABLE CONNECTION?or should i return it and buy a d-link modem.

    Plese help me.

    regds
    ramesh.

that private person's view is correct . the ACT light should glow steadily
indicating that connection is okay . first check the cable from splitter to
modem - see if the cable is in the correct slot - and see also for any breaks .

if cable is fine then complain to local BSNL exchange . if possible , exchange
the modem with a good one or buy a new modem from the local market .
