Default Anything I can do to reduce ping?

    Hey guys,

I'm gearing up to play some games towards year end. I used to play on Xbox Live and it was quite playable. Not comfortable, but it did the job.

But now, I will be moving to PC gaming and low ping time is a must to even join a PC server. I live in Rajajinagar, Bangalore and my broadband plan is Home 750+. Constant DL speeds of 55-60kBps, UL speeds of ~30kBps.

Get a better plan like BSNL Home 500 or change ISP. Supposedly Reliance and MTNL give the best pings, followed by bsnl and then finally airtel.

Leatrix Latency fix is great if you're connecting to a server outside India.

Changing dns server might give you a +/-20 ms difference.
Try namebench to figure out the best dns server.

Thanks for the tips guys.. I managed to lower the ping considerably.

Moreover, my test above was using WiFi, so that may have factored in some way. I changed my DNS based on the recommendation by namebench and tested the ping on my desktop. I got a ping of around 100ms down from 180ms when tested on the Delhi server with speedtest.net

I will try the Leatrix latency fix very soon once I have my gaming rig built.

Btw, does it matter if I change the wiring? All i've heard is it would lower the SNR, but does it lower the ping in anyway? :|

yes wiring is really relevant but if the wires are fine changing it is pointless.

Just make sure snr/atten values are normal.

Yeah Wifi is awful for online gaming (bad jitter/latency/packet loss/delay etc).

A few other users have also reported being lucky. Normally some error at BSNL end. Or some illegal means.
