Default Broadband doesn't work with splitter

If I connect phone line directly to modem, broadband is working fine but if I connect it through splitter it is not working.

I am on 4 Mbps dataone plan. Modem is Dlink 2640T.

    SNR : : 6 6
    Line Attenuation : 19 6

For past years SNR is almost same. Mostly connection used to work fine.

I searched some previous posts, mostly looks like line problem.

But how to convinice JE to change the line? Is there any test they can perform.

    Thank you.

    Hi

This might be a line problem but before that you should try to change filter/splitter. If that doesn't work then try to change the phone instrument too. If you have extension line to other rooms at your property then disconnect those lines too and check the difference. Phone providers prefer not to incur so much expense for intermittent connectivity issues. Once you are done with correcting the physical setup then try to contact your ISP.

Are you using the correct port of the splitter. The " phone " output filters data content to make the voice clear. So if you are by mistake using the " phone " output in splitter, it may cause problem.

May be your splitter is faulty. You can get a new for less than Rs. 100 or even less. Get a new piece and replace it. Check if you are still facing the problem.

How many phones do you use at your home ? I mean how many extensions ? If possible, give a diagram of your set up.

Do you hear a hissing sound while using phone ? In both cases, take a print out of your SNR and attenuation values and show it to the SDE of your exchange. He will understand. Or simply deal it at the line man level. Talk to him and ask him to get the line changed. Make sure there are no joints or non insulated / oxidised parts etc. Normally they help.

    Thank you smoothvibes, meetdilip.

I was initially skeptical that it was splitter problem as I changed it few days back only. I gave it a try and purchased new one. It is working now. It disconnecting frequently ( 1 or 2 times in an hour). I will see if it persists for few more days and then complain.

Here JE should approve for line change. I planned to purchase the material myself and ask line man to change. When I searched in few electrical shops, they told that this material will be available only with Bsnl and outside quality will be low.

Good. May be the splitter you bought last time is not of good quality.

As for line change, don't invest yourself. Normally if you deal with line men (at least in our place) they do it. You need not change the whole line. First check the line from the junction box to your home. I think they do not need JE approval for that. If they are particular, try talking to the JE or SDE. They understand when somebody says SNR is low.

    This may help

    Hi

I suggest you not to get your line changed at least till the time monsoon is over, disconnection is a very common problem during monsoon season. You can speak to lineman of your area and get the line checked from junction box to your home and if you find some or any joints in the cable then only get it changed.

Please change mod mode to GDMT.
    Check SNR d/l again.
do you get the correct download speed ?
    http://speed.io

    check here:

SNR 6.6 should improve. Instead of spending for the full line, you can use
a pair of wires from aRJ45 cable ( superior quality) and crimp the rj11 connectors.
You could make 4 rj11 cables.
Also check the connectors are not rusted/blackened/making high resistance contacts.
The ringer sound also gives you an idea about the quality of the cabling from exchange to your junction box. ( ringer A.C voltage drop enroute) .
    Feedback please.
Line attn around 20 dB is allowed./should not affect the connection.
    REcheck SNR and ATTN.

    Thanks all for the response.

Yesterday I had only few disconnections. Its working fine. If it worsens , then I will talk to JE after monsoons.

    @essbebe

My phone ringer sound is good but dial tone is little bit low. If I press a digit and wait I hear some noise.
Speed Test results: I am on 4Mbps plan
    (Copied on 2011-08-13 09:12:40)
    Download: 811 Kbit/s
    Upload : 582 kbit/s
    Connects : 750 conn/min
    Ping: 206 ms

I work from home so internet is critical for me. Here, bsnl guys will resolve the issue on 2 nd day (complaint + 2 days). Previously they used to do it next day. I overherad two bsnl guys talking that the complaint comes to them only next day.

I am taking new Bean Fiber 10 Mbps plan and will change BSNl plan from Plan 1400 ( 4 Mbps/25 GB) to Plan 900 ( 4 Mbps - 8 GB). With two connections downtime will be less.

No idea what suggestion/s you followed and the result.

    (1)
Your speed result is not clear.
    for a 4 Mbps ( bits) speed plan ( divided by 8) d/l max 500KB/sec (Bytes)
means you can d/l a file of say 5MB in 10 seconds ( *ideal conditions )
A speed of about 400KB/sec to 450KB/sec expected normally.
Do the speed test here and compare.
    wait...

I just changed the splitter and didn't make any changes.

On the link you have sent its 2.26 Mbps download and 22.3 Kbps upload

    3. RE check SNR/ATTN values after using NEW ADSL splitter.

Allowed speed as per plan UPTO 512 Kbps 64 KB/sec.

You can click the Yellow ICON ( postcard type)_ and paste the links/ results.

    ( delete existing http:// )
Actual download speed at any time best verified by a download from Microsoft servers.
Your results specially UPLOAD does not seeem to be correct.
    Repeat the tests.
    2.
ADSL splitter mainly meant for giving EASY passage for telephone VOICE frequencies ( coils and condensers in the path called low pass filter ), and thereby BLOCK block DATA signals ( freq higher ).

Even Other wise through the ADSL splitter ALSO . MOdem RJ11 goes
    direct to the Phone junction.

Thanks a lot essbebe. My speed test results and new SNR values are attached
Its raining here. so these values are low. I tries downloading from MS site. Download rate is 225 Kb/sec to 300 KB/sec. Average we can take it as 240 KB/sec.

So, looks like my speed as very less compared to my plan. I stay less 250 meters from exchange.

(Due to less no of posts I can't post links)
