    Default BSNL's T2-B-Gawv1.4U10Y-BI and Belkin N150

    hello folks,

we have two flats in an apartment on two different floors. we have BSNL's T2-B-Gawv1.4U10Y-BI modem (model no. as shown on 192.168.1.1) on upper floor. i get very poor wifi coverage on the below floor. so i have taken out a LAN cable from port1 of the BSNL modem and extended it to my other flat. this connection works very well with my laptop. but now i want to make this connection wireless. so i purchased a belkin basic N150 router and put the cable which came from my BSNL T2-B-Gawv1.4U10Y-BI modem into the Belkin router. i supposed that it will be very easy to establish wireless network but it was not so. belkin's setup just could not connect to the internet. i don't know what's wrong with it. do i need to tweak some more settings? the internet connection works perfectly when i put the extended cable into my laptop.

i have already put my username and password of broadband connection into T2-B-Gawv1.4U10Y-BI and it's on 'Always on' mode.

your help would be highly appreciated.

    cheers!

    Ok.
    1.
    BSNL "Teracom" type WIFI router.

Keep BSNL wifi router near the window at a higher plane.
Let the Antenna be Parallel to the ground. ( is it detachable ?)
Rotate for better signal in laptop in First floor. ( more bars )

Radiated wifi signals : figure of 8 (eight). Earlier Vertical figure 0. ( zero)
At least for 20 to 25 feet of radius wifi should work.

    2. BelkinsF7d5301:

can you post the connection status of Belkins wifi router?

Did you get an Installation CD ?

Answer NO to question does your ISP need id and PW?
    Select Dynamic IP
    Rest select auto.

    3.
    Important : TEST
Rj45 cable from BSNL unit to WANport of Belkins.
Another RJ45 from LAN1 of Belkins to Laptop ethernet port.
    Gettting Internet Ok ?

    4..
Remove rj45 from laptop. for wifi mode
You will have a different SSID when Belkins is used.

    Feedback.

NO, i am not getting connection this way either. wireless is also not working. i am able to connect to the router but not to internet.

when i use win 7 network diagnostic tool, it shows up error as DNS server is not responding. i am still able to connect to the internet when i directly put the cable from bsnl unit into my laptop.

Yes, i have got the CD from belkin and i also tried setting up router through their software, but it doesn't help. yes, BSNL broadband needs id and PW, which i have already put into the BSNL's modem router (on 192.198.1.1) and it's on 'always on' mode.

i am very sorry to reply so late but i was out of town.

OK, today i have made some progress. i googled and found out that i wanted to set the belkin n150 as an access point. i have managed to do that. so now when i connect the RJ45 cable from BSNL router into the Belkin, in network and sharing settings i can see my active network and Access type: Internet. this works both on wired and wireless network. so this should mean that i have successfully managed to connect the modem to the router. but i am NOT able to browse at all. this is such a strange. i can see the Internet access under network settings but unable to browse.
what do i need to do now?

thanks for your patience and help.

Do you see other SSID's ( secured/unsecured) in wifi mode ?

Post ipconfig /all data for both LAN network and WLAN network. Delete tunnel data.

and as attachment Connection status of your Belkins.wifi router.

(1)You should delete all the Tunnel data which is not required
repost LAN Wlan data if you feel like.
    (2) What is the difference betweeen the example page of Belkin
connection screenshot I had posted and what you had posted ?
No information which will interest members further.

    (3) You can connect both in LAn and wifi mode as per screenshot atttached.

Are you still using Windows XP?

    This is probably a virus.
Install HijackThis and look for userinit.exe file somewhere in your system32 folder.
    Google "userinit.exe" and you'll see.

I highly recommend Windows users switch to Ubuntu 11.04 and select the Gnome 2 interface. I can't believe how much time I wasted fighting viruses on Windows computers back in the day. And the shame of running a pirated OS. Oh the shame!!

i had lost my hopes on converting this connection into wireless until recently when my wired connection also stopped working. then i realized that the problem was with the connector that connected the two cat5 cables. i replaced it and my wired connection started working smoothly. then i just reset my belkin n150 router and put the cat5 cable in it. and it worked like a charm! i didn't need to tweak any settings.

btw, i am running windows 7 and it's not pirated. also, i have not come across any virus issues or system crashes till now. i have found quick heal antivirus to be very useful. i never had any issues with my laptop, it's been 2 years since i got it.

    cheers!

I should have asked: What do you mean by "I am able to connect to the internet according to windows"
You were able to connect to the router more likely. Half the problem with Windows is it dumbs everything down and actually makes it more difficult to troubleshoot.

How can you say you've found it to be useful if you've never encountered any virus? Its like saying the armour you're wearing saved your life even though you've never been in battle. The whole idea of viruses is a ridiculous money-making scheme. Microsoft greedily rushes out buggy software and then the vendors come along and charge you even more to fix it up. A false sense of security my dear.

(This forum won't let me view your screengrabs until I've posted 15 of my own posts - for crying out loud )

"according to windows" means it showed up the internet status as connected but i couldn't surf websites most probably because of the weak signals from the connector.
anyway, i am not interested at all in defending windows or any other discussions on operating systems. as long as my windows laptop is running smoothly i am going to keep it. and when it stops i'll go for a macbook.
