Hi,

Have you selected Automatic IP DNS in computer ?
The thread has been extensively discussed and many screen shots are available.
Now give me IPconfig and netstat details.
start run cmd IPconfig
start run cmd netstat
Probably you have A FAULTY ETHERNET CARD. Try the usb option.
Hi Essbabe,
Definitely no issue with the ethernet card since I can connect to Airtel easily. On the comp, automatic dns is also selected. WIll post the netstat and ipconfig shortly.
souvabhunia's problem is deifinitely authentication. I saw his msg regarding asking the exchange guys to reset his password. It should be a password issue.
Well, mine is different problem. I log, I can see that the modem is getting connected whenever the link LED is getting stable and Data LED glows to, but that is only for 6sec at the most. Again The Link LED goes off. In between 6 sec, log shows that the link up and us and ds speed is also given. At the same time, I have checked the status of WAN. It shows normally ADSL link Down.. as I have shown in the screenshot of WAN status, but in between those 6 sec, I see "PPP Down". Is this a new prob?
I have turned from LAN mode to USB mode. Also to no avail!
I am seriously thinking that One of my Modem or Splitter is faulty. This weekend I will get a new Splitter.
I will First try with the new Splitter and see if the Link LED is stable. Once Link LED gets stable, I can troubleshoot further.
Hi Arindam,
It may be a password issue - however, I have also got the password re-set done by calling the help desk. I still get the same error message though.
Then post the nestat and ipconfig!
U can ping the modem, I believe...
Anyway.. I am not the wise one here... but essbebe....![]()
@souvabhunia : can you check your Dataone usage with ID and password reset now by BSNL? ( with a working modem ).
IN THE MODEM : DNS settings ; have you removed the check mark in the automatic option.?
presume you have entered 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 and saved the settings.
Seems you have selected auto and the opendns is not selected.
Ok, here is the update...
Saturday, I went to Chandni Chowk Market, Kolkata to buy a new splitter. It cost me 30/. I have fitted it and it gave me the same problem! So, My splitter is OK, I suppose. So, problem lies in the modem. I will get a new modem tomorrow. It is a Tata Indicom modem. I will test it and reply back to this thread!
Finally Got connected!
My Tata Indicom modem has arrived. Model number is x8821r+. Its of Xavi Technologies, Taiwan. White colored... not much of an eye candy! I was not very much moved to have this modem! But it did the trick! I connected it with LAN, because it does not have an USB port to connect! WAN LED glew continuously and I knew the wotk is done. Set up the VCI and DNS. Passed the uname and pwd. rebooted and Lo! I was able to ping google!
But one thing still bothers me is when my internet is ON, my phone is totally dead! There is no ring tone and when I call my land number, I hear the ring though my mobile, but the phone does not sound. Its false ringing!!
Does anyone else have this problem?
Anyway, after solving this problem, I can advice those users who are using any ADSL2+ modem to connect any broadband service... Check for all the LEDs are glowing.. look into your modem manual and last but not the least............. See the log generated by the modem! It is often helpful to narrow down the problem and ask particular questions to the knowledgeable ppl.
As for Airtel 220bx, I can advice to check the Link LED.. whether it is glowing or not. If it is not glowing then either your ph line does not have internet connection enabled or you modem is faulty. If you can arrange for another modem to check for the internet connectivity.. it will be better... before you jump for buying a new one![]()

Message received form souvabhunia : for info <br>
Quote Message: Interesting solution - BSNL regularly does something
called "core binding" in which they lock all user ids. After
some time, the ids are released. However, it appears that
the release process is manual and they "forget" to release
some numbers. This can not be done from the BSNL Dataone help desk
and has to be done from the exchange itself. This is what happened in my case.

Problem solved.
Hi essbebe ,
My problem is similar to aridam's problem.. here are the details :
I am using Beetel 220BX modem for my BSNL broadband ... the internet works fine most of the times in the afternoon ... but after the link goes off at night mostly after 8PM .
BSNL guys say that they do not have nay solution to this . I am also thinking of changing the modem .. but not sure that would do any good since I do get connected to internet (. though in the afternoon..) . Can you please suggest something .
