Default VOIP on BSNL ..do I need to request for opening ports?

Hi
First of all I am glad to see such a forum

I am trying to setup Lingo (a voip service) phone adaptor on my bsnl connection..but to no success yet
I have made all the connections right but still dont seem to get a dial tone...
I had the following questions regarding the same,
1. Do I have to tell BNSL to open ports (Port - 5060 to 5065 UDP 1024 - 1030 UDP) . The customer care of Lingo suggested me that BSNL might be blocking these ports? Most importantly, if yes, will BSNL do it for me?
2. BSNL connection is PPPOE right or dhcp? I did an ifconfig and it shows that 'bsnl modem PPP'. That is PPPOE right? I am connecting via a phone line (not dial up but DSL)
3. Finally, is anybody using Lingo (in nasik, maharashtra) and had similiar problems?
Thanks in advance
Vishal

I am not familiar with the set up you need.

But there is a list of virtual servers listed in the BSNL modem which can be configured for such things and might work if you set it up.

Try that. BSNL most likely won't do it for you.

Hi,

> COuld you tell me more about these virtual server..what exactly are they and > from where can i get their list...

In your browswer if you give the address http://192.168.1.1 it will open the settings for the BSNL Data Modem. Of course the default user and password are 'admin'.

In my case it is a Huawei SmartAX MT882 modem.

In the screen there are links on the left and a view area on the right.

Select Virtual Servers under the Advanced section on the left. On the right side on top you have an area where you can edit the virtual servers and a list below (22 in my case).

You can edit the parameters for any of these to suit your needs. Use that to open the ports that you wanted - (Port - 5060 to 5065 UDP 1024 - 1030 UDP).

>ports...Ironiciallt enough..they actually spent 4 hrs with my friend in the >BSNL office trying to set up the lingo Adaptor..but to no success..and they > told that BSNL is not blocking any port! ..

I am not a tech person. I wanted to have a web server running in my machine and so needed info. But I was told that unless I take a permanent IP setup I won't be able to do this.

Only casual digging into these settings along with a friend of mine did we figure out this way to get into my machine through the modem from outside.

I really hope this solves the problem that you are facing. I am assuming that with these port entries in the virtual server list, your computer should be able to communicate to the outside world through these ports. Further you may have to allow changes in your Windows firewall settings to allow these ports.

Do let me know whether this helped.

You did not see an important line in my answers in the above forum. I am not a person with technical knowledge. In the above messages I was trying to answer a specific query about 'opening the ports' and I am not even sure whether what I have written has helped.

Kindly go through the messages in the link below and see whether that helps you. Third post in the series may help you.

I really don't know whether I deserve the above.
