Thread: Auto Pc/connection On

Hi.

I have ASUS M2NPV VM motherboard with AWARD BIOS. My DataOne Plan is Home 500.

Is there any software or tweak available so that my pc will switch on at 2 am and switch off at 8 am? Or any software for the broadband connection to switch on at 2 and and off at 8?

I am running the modem in Bridge mode. So i need to switch on modem, then dial the connection like old dial-up connections.

you could these things...

1. open up notepad and type in the following without quotes

"rasdial <yourusername> <yourpassword>"

replace the <> with your appropritate username and password that you use to connect to the net. save the file as <yourfilename>.bat

of course, name is anything you want but the extension should be ".bat"

say for example you named it as: connect.bat

to disconnect create another .bat file called disconnect.bat via notepad and put in it "rasdial /disconnect" (without quotes, note that there is a space between rasdial and disconnect)

2. next, google for "WOSB", use that program to set your pc to wake up at a specified time and date. it also gives you option to shut down/hibernate the pc after a stipulated amount of time.

3. schedule your pc using "schedule tasks" in control panel to run connect.bat after the computer wakes up , say at 2:15 am. and similary schedule it to run "disconnect.bat" at 7:45 am

and you are done! using scheduled tasks you can schedule more programs to run once your computer has woken up from either standby state or hibernate (there are the two buttons in the WOSB program to standby or hibernate once you have scheduled it to wake up at a time).

WOSB program is very small and easy to use.

by doing the above, you are not only saving power but also in an effortless way scheduling your downloads thus making most of your Home500 plan!
