Question How to reconnect when connection drops?

I'm trying find out a way to reconnect when my connection drops. I tried a program called 'Reconnect', but it doesn't seem to work, it keeps redialing but fails to connect each time. Should i just save the password and use the inbuilt windows 7 'redial if connection drops'. I've heard it's not reliable but 've no idea if it's just a rumor.
ok, and another thing, i know i need to reboot the modem between 2 am and 8 am for night downloading but is it the same thing as disconnecting and reconnecting, cause reboot is different no? in all the articles i found on this site tells me to just reconnect to internet. So any help?
    Thank you in advance.

    Please mention

    1. Your modem - model and make

    2. Modem mode - PPPoE (Always ON) or Bridge (Dialer)

    3. Your circle and SSA.

You can simply set your modem in PPPoE mode and forget about reconnecting. If connection fails, modem will automatically redial your connection. You can use any of the scheduler mentioned here to make sure that there is a break in connection at 2.05 and 7.55.

    Thank you for replying
Its written DNA-A201BE-1 (last one is i or 1 don't know). I got it on rent from bsnl so didnt bother to see the make and model properly. I've it on bridge mode and 'd like to continue that way. I don't know what ssa is but I'm in bhubaneswar(orissa) if that helps. When i use this in command prompt
    @ECHO OFF

    :CONNECT
    rasdial name password
if NOT %ERRORLEVEL% ==0 GOTO FAILED
    EXIT

    :FAILED
GOTO CONNECT, it just connects to my modem and same way,
rasdial "Broadband Connection" /DISCONNECT just disconnects it. Is this good enough or reboot means something similar to how you do it from the router page.

In bridge mode, simply closing the dialer or shutting down the PC is enough to disable the connection. So you can use rasdial for connection and disconnection. I have seen members using batch files and schedule to run it at desired timing to connect and disconnect. You can check it here

SSA = Secondary Switching Area (normally your district Head quarters) which is a sub division of Orissa circle. Most telecom circles have implemented automatic reset of usage counter at 2.00 am and 8.00 am which will help you avoid resetting the connection for night unlimited. You check your usage details on portal and see if there is automatic break up at 2.00 and 8.00. If yes, you need not go through all these procedure.

PS: Any special reason to stick to bridge mode ? In bridge mode, all ports are open and a hacker can easily get into your system. In PPPoE mode, you are protected by the hardware firewall of your router. If you are particular about bridge mode, better use a good firewall.

I don't know if my circle resets the counter automatically. I registered on the selfcare site and then called 'em for the portal id and password for the data.bsnl.in site but they simply ignored my question and told me to use selfcare site. The update isn't regular on the selfcare site, it's running like 12 hours behind and it doesn't even show the usage between 2am and 8 am.
I'm using the scheduled batch files.. didn't like the force kill of the tasks in the schedulers and they also allow only 1 program to start. I 'd prefer to have everything done with batch files rather than a mixture of an auto scheduler and some batch files. I like bridge mode cause of the open ports, so I don't have to port forward 'em everytime i install something that requires direct access to others. Anyway even with ppoe mode, i 'd always have quite a lot of forwarded ports active, I rather use a software firewall and hope things go okay for me .
Unlike my previous isp, bsnl doesn't seem to disconnect at all. Hope i won't need a redialer.
    Thanks for the help
