    Default Changing DNS BSNL Punjab

When I try to change dns thing, I have no idea where to go. when i open network connections, there is 1. Dial up broadband connection and 2. Local area network connection. and dns can be changed in both of them. so where exactly should i go and change dns thing. and which dns is better for my area with 750ul plan.

may be DHCP not enabled in modem ( usually in Lan menu page)
For a single system Ip address can be entered.
For Multiple systems auto Ip address preferred.

Picture is from archives in this forum.
check speed at above site twice.
for speed tweak try tcp/ip optimizer from
    http://speedguide.net.
    After tweaks check again.

    1. Mention modem - model and make.

    2. Modem mode : PPPoE (Always ON) or Bridge (Dialer)

    3. How many systems do you use ? Do you use WiFi.

It is not mandatory to use " Obtain IP address automatically " if you are not using more than one system. If it is causing problems to you, better configure the IP manually.

You can try enabling DHCP in modem and check.

Ok. DNS entry same as first screen shot. Since you are facing limited or no connectivity when choosing " Obtain IP address automatically ", simply choose " Use the following IP address " and follow the screen shot below

(2)Post screen shot if both adsl2+ and adsl2 were unchecked
    If no connection mention it.

For a stable connection, keep adsl2+ and adsl2 buttons unchecked.
If you lost connection Restore Adsl2.

Check for two days and satisfy yourself , the connection/speed/surfing are OK.
You appear to be a beginner, and I won't advise you to try FW upgrade now..

DNS : just above DSL menu item in modem. Ignore.

Hope you tried the suggestions given above.

Did you try new DNS ? Still the same ?

    1. Download a well seeded torrent and report the speed.

    2. Download any file from Microsoft and report the speed.

    3. Try this guide

http://www.indiabroadband.net/broadb...onnection.html (How to: get max. speed of a connection)

I am afraid there is any reliable way to find what is your internet speed. It just keeps fluctuating from 35 to 70kbps. But most of the times it between 50 to 65kbps. Is there any definate way find that out. I couldnt find a well seeded torrent as I m not used to torrents. I use fileservers and premium accounts to rip off internt. lol.

if you can download 200-210mb in 1 hour then everything is fine.

This is my DNS set up:

Started a Torrent at 10:00 am of 700 mb with 14 seeds of 26 connected(5 in swarm). Just before finish, utorrent reported averaged download speed was 53 kb/s. I was on ADSL2.

I have a question. If I am uploading something, will downloading speed be affected? Or Upload and Download can run simultaneously at rated speeds , in may case Download speed around 60 kb/s and upload around 30 kb/s.

Ok updating soon download from Microsoft servers.
