Thread: PLEASE HELP: Problem with AN1020-21

Hello

I just got BSNL wifi broadband installed 2 days back. The BSNL guy confugured the broadband in bridge mode. I had to first connect to wifi, then dial again to get connected to the internet. However, I saw frequent disconnections in this method, as I got disconnected every hour.

So, next I reset the modem, configured it to PPPoE mode. Now, the proble is this: Broadband works fine with the ethernet cable. But when I try to use Wifi, the wifi doesnt last for more than a minute.

I tried 64 bit encription, i tried MAC filters, disabled MAC filters, used WPA filters, have used practically all options, but still the problem is there.

I mean, when I connect to wifi, I can surf the internet for 1 minute, and then wifi becomes invisible, it does not even show in the list of available networks even though the wifi light on the modem is turned on and green in color. Even now as I'm typing, the wifi light is on, but my wifi is not showing up in the list of wireless networks.



Please help, I have wasted so much time on this but without any success. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help me out.

Of no help.. I have tried almost everything, with encryption, without encryption, static ips etc.. but nothing seems to work. The wireless connection page of my modem shows wireless as 'Enable' but the wifi light is off.

Also, if I restart the modem, the wifi may start, but then when I connect to wifi, the net works for a minute and then disconnects, and the wifi netwrok also become invisible, that is it is not longer seen in the list of available networks (although the wifi light is still green at that time).

I am facing absolutely no issues when using the modem with cable, but i dont know why, I just cant get the wireless configured correctly.

Any help in this regard is appreciated.

do you keep the lan cable connected when trying WIFI ? remove it and try.

No harm if cable is connected with windows 7 OS

if your OS is windows 7. try "connectify"

May be, a FW upgrade can be tried.
Post as screen shot the wifi page.

and check wlan card driver update/s settings.
( in TCP/IP settings page topbox configure advanced )

My WLAN drivers are updated, I went to the dell website for any updates but there are none. You can have a look at the current Wireless page which I have attached with the post.

Also, I have tried different encryption methods. I have tried even WITHOUT any encryption, leaving the wifi unsecure. But the problem still there, I connect to the wifi for a minute, then it gets disconnected, and gets invisible, it doesnt show in the list of available wifi networks.

(1)Presume you have disabled the MAC filter.
(2)TRY UNSECURED>

it does not even show in the list of available networks

(3)If the ssid does not show up in the list, we have to check the computer's Net work settings.
Assuming you have. done this correctly and you see other wifi Networks ( secured /unsecured), in the list.
(4)Go back to "bridged" mode and confirm wifi works OK

Were you ever able to use WiFi using this modem ?

Reset the modem, reconfigure using the Teracom link in the above post and try.

Yes, I have used the wifi from this modem in Bridge mode. The BSNL guy configured it in bridge mode, I was first connecting to wifi and then dialing to connect to internet. But with bridge mode, I was facing requent disconnections, like every hour or so..

So, I switched to PPPoE mode. but now, even though I can use the internet through cable without any hassles, the wifi just wont show in the list of available networks, I know it has been configured correctly.

Also, Even if after restarting modem a few times, the wifi shows up, as soon as I connect to the wifi, after about a minute I get disconnected and the wifi again becomes invisible and doesnt ahow any more in the list of available wireless networks.




I'll try to use Bridge mode once again, And give feedback. Can you guide me on setting up bridge mode. Thanks.

The modem does not get restarted. Only the wifi gets disconnected, and then becomes invisible (im not able to see the wifi in the list of available networks) even though the wifi light on modem is still green and stable.

Here again, and the problem is still there. According to your instructions, I configured the Bridge mode. Again, then configured the wifi (see attached image for settings) --> Even after configuring, the wifi signal is ZERO, it just shows in the list and no signal, though I'm sitting just next to the modem...

And after some time, even the wifi network became invisible and is not seen in the list of available networks.

I'm only able to use the internet in the wired mode (be it Bridge or PPPoE)

Any help in this regard is highly appreciated

WIFI channel:

Select Manual and Channel 11 or 6
and give feedback.

Changed channel to Manual -> 11 -> CONFIRM

The wifi light on modem is still glowing green, but wifi not shown in the list of available networks.

Ssid ruby try other network.

I changed SSID from Roby to Atul07.. the network was showing in the list of available networks. I removed my ethernet cable, then tried to connect to 'Atul07' wifi network.
A message popped up -> "Windows was unable to connect" and then the wifi network became invisible and no more showing in the list of available networks.

i just need to check your WIFI settings.
mac address disabled ? try without any security key.
Since you reported wifi worked ,
in Dialer Mode at least for one hour

In tcp/ip properties select obtain ip address automatically.
or check the ethernet wireless card advanced settings.

UPDATE:
3. IN YAHOO chat you had confirmed you RESET the modem/router.
Now in PPPoE ( with always ON) mode re check all settings
with the link given from another forum.

You have confirmed Ethernet mode An1020-20 is working.

After all possible solutions, the problem was still there. So, finally called the BSNL guy, He confirmed that the modem is FAULTY.



He replaced the modem, so far it's working in the Bridge mode. If there's again any problem, I'll post again.
