Default extremely slow bsnl broadband how to complaint

    Hi,
I am highly frustrated with slow speed of BSNL connection from past few days.
Upto few days things worked fine but then since past few days I noticed my connection is extremely slow.Initially I thought it to be a network issue .But this has become a permanent problem. Can some one help me to understand how can I complain to BSNL with proof and who to complain?

My plan is 256 Kbps UL

    1. Please mention the current speed. How do you measure speed of a connection ? Download any file from Microsoft and report the speed here. Check using a healthy torrent, report the speed (both download and upload).

    2. Which DNS are you using ? Change to Open DNS or Google DNS and check. You can also use Namebench to select the best DNS.

    3. Do you have torrent uploads in background ? Install Networx / Shaplus / Bitmeter and report the speed while there is no browser, no torrents, no Windows / antivirus update.

    4. This may help

    5. Complain here and wait for BSNL staff to attend the issue

My plan is 256 Kbps UL
    32KB/sec
    My plan max 512Kbps 64 KB/sec

You can download this file from motive bsnl site. or some other file.

Speed of download should be almost 2 Mbps speed
    256KB/sec max for everybody.
Download not counted for limited plan users.
    TRY. and give feedback.
You can stop download any time, if you dont need the file.
PS: Don't try FW upgrade etc !!!

Here is the speed by using links as given by people above
hxxp:// www dot mybroadbandspeed dot co dot uk/results/119245301.png[
using a healthy torrent or downloading a file from an active link
maximum download speed is 25kbps (in best case)
which is 10 times less than the test result.

    This result is surely wrong.
Please replace hxxp by http and dot by .

less than 15 posts so can not give url

The result of mybroadbandspeed test is wrong.Since maximum download speed of any heavy file which I see in firefox is 25 kbps for a 256 kpbs UL plan.Forget downloading even browsing i.e. opening gmail becomes an issue , I have to switch to basic html of gmail for it to work in above mentioned test conditions.Given the fact I am not downloading any thing and there is no active torrent, virus (clean install) ,the results of tests are surely wrong.

It takes more than 30 minutes to download a 20 mb test file from above posts and 7 days to download 4 GB healthy torrent.

You have to test 3-4 test files simultaneously as i have mentioned above also. So, do as i say and post the screen shots. No need to wait till the downloading is over.

    Try a simpler site.
    http://www.ozspeedtest.com/bandwidth...sults/18090190

    [`[*Test Results from <a href="http://www.ozspeedtest.com/bandwidth-test/results/18090190">Oz Broadband Speed Test</a>*]`]
    [(----------------------------------
    Test run on [*04/10/2011*] @ [*11:49 PM*])]

    [(Mirror: [*Optus*]
    Data: [*600 KB*]
    Test Time: [*10.85 secs*])]

[(Your line speed is [*450 kbps*] (0.45 Mbps).
    Your download speed is [*56 KB/s*] (0.05 MB/s). )]
    3

    mention your modem/model/make/number.
Upload speed is usually will not be so high.

If you havea complaint with bsnl company then you can complaint it by visiting the bsnl office which is nearest to your address.

Your plan : 256 Kbps UL

    1 Byte (B) = 8 bits (b)

    256 Kbps = 256/8 = 32 KBps

    ------------

maximum download speed is 25kbps (in best case)

    Kbps or KBps ?

25 KBps is not a bad speed on a 256 Kbps line. Download managers and torrents show speed in KBps not Kbps.

    --------------

My result for UL 750, 512 Kbps unlimited

    ---------------

    1. Mention OS in use.

    2. Try Open DNS or Google DNS and check.

    3. Use a good download manager (IDM or FDM), use private trackers for torrents.

    4. This may help

http://www.indiabroadband.net/broadb...onnection.html (How to: get max. speed of a connection)

    -----------

No need to use dot in url. Simply post url as hxxp://domain.com instead of http://domain.com

    Hope this helps.

The problem with BSNL people is they don't understand, to get a simple router configuration I had to keep calling them n number of times and myself went with router to their office (which ideally some one from BSNL office is suppose to come home to do the settings) and I had to run to each person as who can tell me what are my login details as this was a new connection. What do you expect from such people. My problem is my dad does not allows me for any connection other than BSNL otherwise I would never have taken BSNL broadband.

    Give details of your modem/make/number.
Once you get connected to Internet with ANY modem,
    ( Not "Rocket science")
(a)improvements can be made at your end.
(b)Then the Telephone line , if not satisfactory can be reported.
    (c) You can Opt for an increased speed Tariff plan.

256Kbps is the minimum BB speed . 512Kbps will be satisfactory.

The problem which I referred to was not with respect to admin login page of router at 192.168.1.1
I was referring to authentication details which your ISP is supposed to give you once they issue a new connection assuming it arrived on time. Was not same for me.

This issue is closed I have to live with BSNL for the reasons which are not in my hands.I really do not like their services.Thanks.

    @ Jamesbon

You have not responded / feedback properly

maximum download speed is 25kbps (in best case)

    Kbps or KBps ?
This is the main issue which is troubling you and you decided not to provide a feedback on this. If you are really getting 25 KBps, it is just a case of misinformation. You can go for Home Combo 500 or 600 and get 2 Mbps unlimited at night (2-8). You could also try the link the previous post and update the result. Just discussing does not solve problems, you need to try solutions and feedback only then you can expect further help.

Thanks for your message.I have seen my friends internet connection which is just 56 kbps and he lives near my house. It works 2 times better than my connection.I don't understand technology much so I might be an idiot. But as an end user I know I do not want to use BSNL if I get a chance I surely will throw it away.I do not have that much money that I keep increasing tarrifs and keep paying them extra money just for luxury. My father will not allow.

OK. start download in your browser and just check the speed of download. Abort download after say 30 seconds.
    Post the result.
    Mine shows 213kB/ sec

    Welcome to Motive_BSNL

You can also see the FREE Offer of 500Mb download, if on a limited plan !!!! ( windows XP users etc )

    hi,
I share the same malady with bsnl BB especially at early mornings and late nights. When I checked the speed today at 0615 h it was only 60 kpbs. I am having home 750 UL plan assuring a BW of 512kpbs but the speed is agonisingly slow for any application like skype and oovoo. Registering a complaint with local bsnl did not help improve matters. can anybody help ?

    1.
Which Browser you use ? Try Google Chrome or FireFox or OpERA
    2.
Download tcp/ip optimizer from SpeedGuide.net :: The Broadband Guide
and try optimal values. Keep the slider at say 400 Kbps position.

    3.
    Your Plan 256 Kbps Max d/l 32 KB/sec ( * conditions apply!)
At least you should download an 1 MB file in one minute.

    4.

Did you try motive web site mentioned in Post No 16?
    even 20 seconds will do.!!!

check speed here and report please. ( before using application above and after using the application.)
