    Default Dataone Broadband Sharing help

Hello friends. BSNL provided me with UT-300R2U modem. I want to know if it is possible for me to share the internet connection using this modem. I want to share the connection on three more computers. What else do I need to do this and the procedure to do it. Thanks.

I dont know much about the model no you have mentioned but if its just a modem and doesnt have an inbuilt router then buying a router is an option or in other case just build a home network using your operating system .. the set up is pretty easy just click your way through it.
All you would need is a couple of crossover cables.

Do giv us a shout if you get stuck on something.

Thanks for the reply. Now tell me if its only a normal adsl modem, then is it possible to share the connection using a switch and connecting the cable from the modem to the switch(RJ45) and then making a simple lan using the switch and connect all the pcs? Or do I have to get something else for it? And what settings should I need? like the gateway address and the dns addresses?

I successfully shared the connection today between two computers. I made a lan connection between the two computers using crossover cable. For this I had to install two NIC in the server computer. Now tell me if I want to share the connection among two more computers (so total 1 server 4 client) then what to do??? Using just a switch will do??? Or I have to do something else?

    Default Switch will do it...

its always good to use the Simple ICS(Internet Connection Sharing) to share your internet connection, but if you use crossover cabling for connecting more than two computers(Server and a client) then you then it will get hectic and become more costly since you have to install an nic for each client you connect. So the better option is to use a switch. Moreover the switch can provide a dedicated bandwidth for each connection. go check out for a switch with 8 port or 4 port as per your needs and if you think of extending your network go for 8 port.you can search ebay.co.in for various prices of switches that are now available in market.Have a nice time....

Well I havent used Zone Alarm, anyway I think this can solve it.

    This (from ZA help).

    Select Firewall|Main.

    Click Advanced.

In the Internet Connection Sharing area, choose your security settings.

    Select the 3rd option:

This computer is an ICS/NAT gateway Zone Labs security software
automatically detects the IP address of the ICS gateway and displays it
    in the Local Address field.

You also can type the IP address into the Gateway address field. (I
    DIDN'T)

Selecting Suppress alerts locally if forwarded to clients, will suppress
alerts forwarded from the gateway to clients to also be displayed on the
    gateway.

    Click OK.

Also if this wont work go checkout the Zone Alarm website....

Hope your problem get solved after this....
