Default Getting BSNL BB Username & Password

    Hi,
Yesterday I applied for a BB connection on an existing phone line.

I used to havee another BSNL BB connection brfore this. As far as I can remember BSNL sends a letter with your BB & portal password which in IMO is an insecure way of sending confidential data.

Anyways, one of my friends said that he got his U/P via SMS. I have mentioned my mobile number & email in the form. So can I really expect my U/P coming via SMS?

I asked the official & he said yes. I want to know your practical experiences.

As soon as I get my login info I am planning to change my BB login password. Is that necessary ? Have you changed your's ? Or am I just being over cautious.

How did you apply ? Manual application ? Online link ?

Mention your circle and SSA. Normally the BSNL personnel who come to install provide these data. Otherwise you can get them by phone call. My friend recently took broadband connection, he got the ID and password from BSNL people itself.

Moreover, now a days only username and password is given by BSNL (your connection won't work without that, you can find it in dialer or modem). To change password and for other actions, you need to register at corresponding portal. For that only your User name (which is used in modem) is required.

May be some new facility or only in a particular circle. Someone from your circle may be able to provide more details.

Password is normally password. It is always good to change password, but even if someone gets your ID and password, they cannot use it. It will work only from your no.

Manual application by filling a form at the Calcutta Telephones exchange.

I am at Kolkata. How do I find out my circle ? & SSA (What is that ?) I didnt purchase the modem from BSNL so there is no chance of BSNL people visiting my house. I have purchased a DLINK GLB 802 C from outside.

    Code:
It is always good to change password, but even if someone gets your ID and password, they cannot use it. It will work only from your no.
    That's a relief.

Even though you bought your own modem to connect it to BSNL (presume you can connect to net using your BSNL connection), you need BSNL ID and password. If you do not have it already, make a phone call and verify your identity. You can get it in seconds. Also ask for portal ID (not sure if they still provides it), you can use it to log in to data.bsnl.in.

You can also try registering at edc portal with your username. Try and feedback.

I have been using that modem to connect to the net for thr past 2 yrs before which I had a different Dlink modem/router. My request for a new Broadband connection is not provisioned yet. So atm there is probably no username or password chosen for my connection. The guys said it will take 1 week to setup the connection & the U/P will be provided after that.

I am sure about the letter coming but skeptical about the SMS alert. I will write back once my connection is set.

    Thanks.

Ok. Regular follow up calls can speed up the process. When they say one week it is remains same even after a few weeks. Took near a month in my case.

Got the username & password by callling the the the external department broadband but not the adsl link. The telephone guy (line man) of our area came with a document & took my signature & told me I will be contacted shortly. Its 3 days which went into Sat & Sunday so no progress.

This is not our permanent residence. The next wherever I go I will look for cable internet

A visit to exchange might help. Try talking to SDE and seek assistance.

Congrats. Did you choose UL 750 Combo ? I think all other combo plans come with free calls.
